What other civilized country would consider giving a CDL license to someone who can't read or write the nation's language?? I guess I'm naive - I would have thought that was illegal.
Fog a mirror - get your CDL. Can't fog a mirror, ah heck, here's your CDL anyway.
Do you all believe there are CDL holders that do not read or speak English in America

It is illegal, our sorry state and federal governments do not enforce the law. They are not allowed to have an interpreter to assist them but it goes on every day.bergy, NavigatorWife and allniter Thank this.

Cop humor:
Do know what cue balls and (insert nationality here) have in common?
The harder you hit them, the more English they've got.
Big Don Thanks this. -
I have seen tons of non speaking English drivers and if they can speak some English its so bad that you cant understand them. I know for a fact that in California that the middle eastern truck schools pay off the DMV instructors to make sure they pass the test.

Creo que la mayoría de ellos saben Inglés cuando quieren .....

Thanks to State's like CA that go out of their way to make like easy on the non-English speaking, I completely believe that!

There was a Somalian in my truck driving school. I was told, and believe it to be true that he was some kind of General in a Somalian "Army" and he had been involved in helping American troops and his life was in danger if he stayed in Somalia, so he was allowed to immigrate as a refugee. He had a friend who could speak English, and I suspect took the written test for him. His friend had told me in Somalia the "General" (which is what everyone called him) never even drove a car, he had a chauffeur because General's don't drive themselves. He was terrible at backing up and parking, and was terrible on the road --- but somehow he passed, maybe his friend took the test for him I don't know. I sometimes wonder what has happened to him, I would bet money that his career ended in a fatal accident of some sort, but who knows. He had a job lined up driving a gravel truck. He seemed like a nice guy but he could not speak, or write English.

My daughter had her car shipped from Milwaukee Wis. to L.A. a couple years back, with an outfit from Minneapolis, a young man from Somalia showed up in a ratty old FL Freightliner. He barely spoke any English, but though a series of hand gestures and nods he told me he had been with the company for a few months, and was fixing to send for his family, who from what I gathered , lived in a cardboard box with 3 other families. He was a very nice person, and knew what he was doing, and 3 days later, showed up in L.A. with my daughters car right on schedule. I figured he got paid in the low 30's cpm, and was happy as could be.
