Was told to write down what I want in it. Need to figure out some specs for hauling a 98,000 lbs Wirtgen rotomill. May need to haul a 110,000lb rotomill also.
It has to meet 5mph conditions in Montana, work well in ND, SD, MN, and WY
Must be under 110' Long. current setup is 108' 4" Currently 160,000 lbs gross
What I've got now.
2006 T800 ISX 1650 13sp 3.55 rears 40,000lb rears 285/75/24.5 rubber 235" Wheelbase 22,000 full of fuel
A rebranded trailking jeep 4'6 spread
2008 Trailking TK110 60 ton neck 26' well 4'7 spreads 255/70/22/5 rubber added a 14'2" spreader bar and tandem booster

Is this for J Lar?
-
Don't know who that is. My company is Industrial Builders Inc Fargo, ND.
I'll be the one using the setup and want it to work, with the machine listed. Started out in MT at 32-J then to DW-21 and now 5mph, all with a lot of luck. It's been pieced together to make it work. Been doing well on some jobs with the machine, and now they want to get me something purpose built, and completely setup.
Truck will be either a KW or a Petebilt
Trailer I don't know what brand may be good, have Etnyre's (55 toners), Trailking's, (55ton) and 75 ton siebert MGRN and a new 85 ton XL specialized HRGN ya HYD neck for a trailer that's used less than 20 times a year.
Dislike Etnyre's spreader bars they suck, and bearings don't last. Trailking has a great spreader bar. -
Not sure how you ended up 32J? My understanding of that is >18'W or >200,000#Gross, and I think >125'L. DW21 you bet, I'm surprised you can get out of DW21, that condition gets most heavy haul loads.
98-110,000# payload with 10/11 axles (pic) with a 160gross is quite light! I'm heavier than that on 9 with deck.
In order to avoid DW21 having 14'6" between groups gives more weight before tripping it, but that adds to the overall length. Also being under 59,000 on tri groups.
I personally hate spreader bar boosters, they work and are very light, but I don't think they have any real longevity on a tandem. With this kind of financial investment, I demand longevity over light weight. I'm not a Trailking fan, but if that's working for you stick with it. -
The 32-J came from when I had different trailers. Started out with 8 axles (3+1), then got my truck back, with current jeep and 9 wide trailer with 24 ft well (3+1) maxed axles at 20,000 on trailer (32-J), truck and jeep were light. Then they gave me a another trailer with 26ft well (3+1) only 8'6 wide and barely made DW-21 with that. Now took that same trailer and put a longer spreader and additional axle on it and made 5mph.
Jobs been going well so they are going to buy a complete set up, since I don't think this 55 ton trailer will last more than a year with a tandem booster.
I don't know if I have much say in what brand it is. I'm not familiar with the west cost style setups in how the weight is distributed evenly on the back. I'm sure I'll need a 3+2 for ND. Current allowed weight in MT is 47,xxx and 34,000 at 5mph and 55,xxx and 34,000 Dw-21. Would that weight spread work with west coast style?
How much weight difference is there between west coast and east coast?
With current setup I fight trying to get weight on the truck. Truck sits at 10500 steer 37-38 drives and 35-36 jeep 45-46 tri and 32-33 booster.
Is there a way to get weight on the truck? Had to move machine back to get weight off the jeep. -
I'd be open to any trailer brand. Last trailer they bought was a XL specialized 85 tonner HYD neck 3+3+3. Was probably cheaper than the Trailking. Last 55 ton they bought was a Etnyre, ok trailers but hate the cheap spreader bars, always being worked on.
14 2 spread and a 14 6 spread difference was 1800 lbs more, if I remember right. -
I'd ask for an 18 speed. It would give you more and lower gears on the bottom without sacrificing top ratios.

For 98-110,000 you only need 9/10 axles. A 3+3+3 is way too much trailer, most hi quality 13 axles tare in around 100,000.
I tare in at 69-70,000 with 25' of deck in my 70ton Knight California (coffin) style 9 (2+2+2) with a 26,000 tractor. It's a little heavier, but the reliability is there, it's a '02 that has moved at least 25 loads a year running ~100,000 miles/year @ ~65% loaded with 95-125,000# payloads. It's still solid as a rock, and it's been in some nasty mines! They balance awesome, I'm consistently +/- 5% per group front to back.
If you get any heavier than 160, good luck not being DW21, it's pretty well a given for me.
Once you run a coffin trailer or a hydraulic/nitrogen compensating booster, you'll never even consider a spreader bar booster again...they're far better of a design...but they are absolutely heavier.
There is no such thing as a "perfect" heavy haul wagon...everything is a compromise...YOU have to set YOUR priorities and LIVE with them. Mine is tare weight...but I fear nothing with my trailer, I've had over 140,000 sitting on the center 5' of 27' of rail well, and didn't blink! -
Can some one tell me what DW-21 is
