1 1/2" chains, WLL of 33,000lbs. That's what I would use if I still pulled a flat, then I would only need to throw one chain on most every load.:biggrin_25523:

Those straps may look pretty but if that load is what I think it is it's about 2 or 3 straps short!
Looks like a load of 12 foot wallboard.

Straps under tarps not an option at many shippers!

National Gypsum in Shipping Port Pa will load your trailer, and then tarp it and place the straps for you, they have placed many of my straps under and outside of my tarps

    I guess I'm just lazy.

I strap irregular loads on the outside all the time. I cant stand the ballooning as its difficult to get it taut enough not to balloon all the time. I get it as straight and tight as I can,.. then strap it down. I dont have time to spend 3 - 4 hours to get tarping perfection.

And for the others,.. as you can see,.. I twist my straps. I cant stand straps slapping in the wind. I see other guys with their straps flapping like bird wings and I just shake my head, Knowing they are company drivers who dont have to buy their own straps. The shaking and flapping causes premature wear at the pressure points. But If your not paying for them, I guess this is of no concern to you.

I've never had DOT hassle me over it. The myth that twisting causes weak spots is BS. Rope is twisted to create strength. A twisted strap is no different.

National Gypsum does that every where. They had me drop my trailer, Load it and lay the tarps over and then do enough bungee to hold it down. But I still had to go over it to to tighten the tarps and restrap to get my twist on them.

Same exact thing I had to do. I absolutely hated the way they tarped and strapped it. They had my tarps crooked all over and uneven. Straps on the back half were all on one side of the trailer, the straps on the front on the opposite side of the trailer. 2 straps were directly over my axles on the rear. It was a #### mess. Hell they couldve loaded it better even. they had a large portion of it stacked at the front of the trailer over my drives, I was light on the trailer. Wasnt over weight at all, but they couldve loaded it far better. #### thing rode like #### the whole way home

Wow, thanks for all the comments. When I saw the trailer, I just thought the op was lazy. Since I haven't done flat lately and just got on the boards here recently, just wanted some opinions. Thanks to all and I'll leave you with this.
