1 1/2" chains, WLL of 33,000lbs. That's what I would use if I still pulled a flat, then I would only need to throw one chain on most every load.![]()
Saw this on the NYT. Any thoughts?

I strap irregular loads on the outside all the time. I cant stand the ballooning as its difficult to get it taut enough not to balloon all the time. I get it as straight and tight as I can,.. then strap it down. I dont have time to spend 3 - 4 hours to get tarping perfection.
And for the others,.. as you can see,.. I twist my straps. I cant stand straps slapping in the wind. I see other guys with their straps flapping like bird wings and I just shake my head, Knowing they are company drivers who dont have to buy their own straps. The shaking and flapping causes premature wear at the pressure points. But If your not paying for them, I guess this is of no concern to you.
I've never had DOT hassle me over it. The myth that twisting causes weak spots is BS. Rope is twisted to create strength. A twisted strap is no different.

Wow, thanks for all the comments. When I saw the trailer, I just thought the op was lazy. Since I haven't done flat lately and just got on the boards here recently, just wanted some opinions. Thanks to all and I'll leave you with this.
