if you really want to understand how it is working read this article and you can see what happens when the wealth gets concentrated at the top... the last time the rich took control of most of the wealth we had the great depression you know 1929. this time we had the great recession but what is coming for use if this continues. Historically this trend we are in create a boom bust economy. Like the 1800s were in this country. Now many are screaming loudly about government debt and how that is going destroy us. Well the problems is the financials in our economy. they are out of control gambling and making money(taking money) from everyone destabilizing the system. look at this link and try to make it work out for your grand children. When we give up paying for our children education because of low pay then they finance it who wins well the banks. Because our children financed their education their children will also have to. I went to college as a very poor person and did not incur debt in the 1970s. Just think about it. You don't have to quit just realize how it is working for all of us. http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2...ap-is-growing-too/?_php=true&_type=blogs&_r=0
i am making over 2 times more than i have ever made in my life...

There seems to be no end to the amount of erroneous beliefs that one is the master of his own destiny in this or any other business. Sounds great on those self help Cd's; feels empowering to those with lesser than an elevated sense of self esteem.
Truth is, when one accepts the mediocrity forced (yes,... forced) upon the vast majority of today's worker, OTR trucking being no exception, then he is not only lowering the bar for himself, he is also lowering the bar for everyone else just that much more.
Just read through all the posts on this forum: over and over again, you read about specific lousy pay ($500.00-$750.00 a week).
For up to nearly 100 hours of work per week, mind you.
Incidentally, in my own personal experiences, including nearly every driver that I have spoken to, these dollar amount are the norm. Period.
In all fairness, there are some drivers that are doing well. However, those drivers tend to be either basically homeless guys with no family and no responsibilities, therefore, no expenses; or they have managed to have been fortunate enough to have been driving for a very rare carrier that actually somewhat pays well.
There is a caveat' here, however: the day is coming real soon when even these decent carriers will be dropping pay, piece by piece, until even they are compensating drivers just as poorly as the others.
In the end, you or I are not the company owners; we are all subject to whatever "they" decide that they want to pay us. And the less "we" get, the more "they" make.
Hopefully, the day is also coming when we can finally be honest with ourselves and admit that enough is enough.SheepDog, AppalachianTrucker and Brandson Thank this. -
It's just that coming on here and suggesting a new driver should make, at a minimum, more than double what most new drivers make is a bit perplexing. 2k a week is 100k a year with two weeks off. It would be great if that were the starting level but it's not.
Anyone who comes into it expecting that didn't do their homework. -
QUOTE=DriverToBroker;4249495]Socialism works as long as there are more producers than takers. Western Europe won't stay afloat financially much longer if they keep letting immigrants in who rape the system. Because then it is essentially a Ponzi scheme with very short legs.[/QUOTE]
this is a very general statement it sounds like something you heard on the radio. the united states basically set up the system of government in many European countries and they are a mix of democracy socialism and capitalism. The workers of Europe might not have all the stuff we have but most of them work a good number of hours a weeks less than Americans do. they also have and take more vacation than we do. You must be talking about some country in particular. If you check the rankings they all have more effective eduction and better and much cheaper health care, more time off and also cheaper higher education. Most of the countries requires honest labels on their food. It not perfect and I dont want to move there. I just think that there are many ways to do things and there is not one perfect way for everybody.skyviper73 Thanks this. -
Zen, real quick here; I just got back from Switzerland, France, and Germany.
Guys, I gotta tell ya' that they have more than we do. As in material goods, as well as an excellent system of government. Gone are the days of when they had less than us.
Everything is much different and I'm here to say that, unfortunately, they think of us as a people basically living in poverty. Sadly, I am beginning to agree.
Many places do not even accept American dollars.
Now fellas' don't get upset with me;
I'm just a reporter telling you what I actually witnessed.AppalachianTrucker, Brandson, KansasWhirl and 2 others Thank this. -
I just left a company where I was making 45 cents per mile hauling dry van freight straight out of CDL school.
It still wasn't worth being away from home for me.
The pay is coming up and up and needs to come up more. And it will.
There is no way that 50 cpm is double newbie pay unless that newbie have made some very very bad choices.
Seems like there's a huge measure of Stockholm Syndrome in the trucking industry. Hostages who have been hostages for so long they like it and don't want it to change. Plus there's that good old, "screw you, I got mine" crowd who doesn't want to see the newcomers do better. "Suffer like I did, boy!" Well I'll tell you, suffering is relative and we all suffer in different ways with each generation. Why wouldn't drivers want other drivers to succeed? I have no idea...
Are drivers really this passive? Are they sheep who can't stand up to the painful reality that they work 70 hours a week and get paid about 10 to 12 dollars an hour for it without overtime?
Yeah, it's two 35 hour a week jobs worked at the same time.
But you're stuck in the truck so might as well drive, right?
I mean, your day is shot anyway, might as well drive.
Don't shoot the messenger, drivers. -
Lmao. You went to foreign countries and were surprised not everyone accepted US currency? You ever tried buying anything in the US with euros? yen? pesos?
PS: Why haven't you started your own company? You've been on this same tirade at least that long -- that's plenty of time to save up what you need... -
I lived in Germany for eight years as a military brat and saw it first-hand.
It's amazing the levels of general poverty Americans accept. They don't know any different.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Does anyone know where this is at ?

Funny you guys bring the thread in this direction. You know since trucking i have developed somewhat of an addiction to audiobooks. So today's book was a short story describing Karl Marx's philosophies and brief autobiography.
Did yall know he was a lazy alcoholic and bum who leeched off of his wife's family and his close friend?
