During the two week orientation, at what point do they let you know that your hired? If someone can direct me to a thread with that information I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

It all depends. You will probably get a trainer that lives near you so you could drive your personal vehicle home on the weekends. The alternative option is that you will get a trainer that does not live near you and you will be put up in a cheap motel for the weekend when your trainer is at home. I suppose it is possible you could get a longhaul trainer that doesn't take any time off while you are out so you just live in the truck.

Don't overpack. There isn't a lot of room in a truck. Leave the kitchen sink at home please. :biggrin_25520: Plan on having enough clothes for just a week and do your laundry on the weekend. Mostly you will need your drivers license, logbook, and a pillow. There isn't much time for anything else.

by the way: Welcome to the TMC family Pre 5, I hope you enjoy it.

Work boots do need to be steel toe, although I assume the plastic toe boots that meet the osha standards would work. I recommend a pair of sneaker style work boots that will also be comfortable to drive in. I got mine at Walmart. The tall workboots get uncomfortable after 11 hours.

Hardhats and safety glasses are provided. I would recommend a good pair of dark colored safety glasses because working outside in the hot sun with all that chrome is hard on the eyes.:biggrin_2559:

You are not officially hired until the last day of orientation. Before that you can be dismissed from orientation for any reason ranging from having an expired drivers license to walking on Uncle Harold's grass. If something does not check out with your paperwork you will be dismissed during the first week. After that you need to screw up or voluntarily quit in my opinion. During my orientaion I only saw one person dismissed for lack of driving ability, but several people quit after learning how much physical work the load securement was.

Thanks for the info Rawlco. I will most likely be going down to Columbia mid June. I graduate June 7 from Davidson County Community College near Lexington, NC.

It all depends on your experience and how well you do on the driving test and securement class. Possibly, if you do extremely well you will not have to go out with a trainer at all. Not to be disappointed, I would expect to be with a trainer for at least a week.
