dont get me wrong i believe everyone should be able to drive a manual
i resented paying for my kids driving education and only one of 8 can drive a standard
gee when i was young even the girls could drive standards
they all had Volkswagen after all

Lol. My mom can drive a manual and a motorcycle. Lol. Honestly till I came to school I couldn't shift. Tried to learn once didn't go well. Thought autos were great put in gear and go. I have driven a pickup once that is a stick after I learned in a semi. Tried to downshift to come to a stop. Didn't know u don't have to

The auto will consistently get better fuel mileage over a long period. It shifts the same every day no matter what. We all know that when we get tired or distracted we don't shift as well or drive as well. The auto will still shift and get good fuel mileage no matter what. That's why the big companies are going toward it. The consistency of it. Not just because people are lazy. It's all on the bottom line.

The problem is everyone takes it to #### personal. All megas will get to autos. That is beyond obvious. O/o and smaller companys may keep sticks, but its no diffrent than hybrid cars and fuel effecint bimbo box's. Drive a prius during the week and a 69 1/2 on the weekend. Why not take the pony out all week? Cuz it would SUCK! It will be the same with trucks, a "daily driver" is a truck drivin by someone who is interested in the bottom line, ease of operation, or thats what they were issued, they will be autos. Manuals will be drivin by the "lifestyle" driver O/O with pride of style, customization, exc..exc.. it is a personal choice for those with a choice. (Btw i like my super 10 for in city driving) :)

In America it generally happened. The majority of cars by the late 80's were autos. In Europe it's another story.

I figured it out. All the "give me manual or give me death!" Crowd are scared. Must be a auto pissed in there cereal, deflowered there sister, and made sweet love to there teddy bears! Well you come up with a rational reason for a love of grabing something long and hard and forcing it....... oh now i get it. :)
