In every bunch there is "that guy" who thinks real truckers do this or real truckers do that! Quite comical if you ask me. To that I say real truckers don't use power steering and real truckers dont use air ride seats!

i think EVERYONE should at LEAST LEARN how to drive a manual. i stated last year in this thread, i have driven both. i would rather have a manual. my last road truck and my last local truck were both 18 speed manuals. i enjoy shifting tho. (ha ha i had written shirting instead of shifting) too many people try to FORCE their ideas and opinions on others...WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT ....how boring would it be if we were all alike?!

Couldn't agree more. I drove manuals for the better part of my trucking career. Been in an auto for the past year and a half. Guess I'm no longer a real trucker! I love my auto, especially in stop and go traffic.

same thing as the old guys who are afraid of the GPS, they claim it gets lost when they just are not able to use it.

The one thing about manuals vs autos, anyone can drive an auto. Not everyone can drive any stick in a truck.

Based on the resposes here i doubt that. I agree everyone should know how. I drive one of 3 diffrent trannys everyday. Make that 4, sometimes i drive a auto. Companys gear, i dont care what tranny its got just want it clean safe and full of fuel. If i bought my own i would have to seriously think about what to get. I have been otr in a auto, slick #### with manual overide for gear selection and a nice 3 stage ment no bump no matter the weight was a issue. They have come a long way.

It's not hard to drive a manual. I don't know why guys act like its some sort of magical quest that unlocks the secrets of the universe. It's moving a stick from one hole to another. People have been doing it since cars were first built. It's actually easier then driving a auto. With a auto you have to learn how to control the throttle so you can time the shifts. The throttle becomes the shifter. It tells the computer how and when to shift the tranny.

did you post your opinion just after contacting your load planner on the qualcom or making your last entry into the elog that you train under? never mind your trainer will not allow you that option so early in your career, will he?

oh wait.your trainer advised you regarding what to post. has he/she also instructed you to maintain the middle lane come hell or high water as you grip that steering wheel driving at 10-15 under the posted speed limit? do you white knuckle up as that auto speeds through the gears to that top speed of 62-65 mph?

this old guy has never had a trainer, has never been a student, and certainly does not own a gps. I am only afraid of drivers that are run through the cdl mills to meet quotas. Am I referencing you perhaps? calling the shipper/consignee,using the cb, and consulting my 2 year old paper trucker atlas has sufficed just fine so why use a gps?
