My wife rode with me all over the country and really enjoyed it. The only reason she stopped is because she felt really sick on a short trip from TN to Florida; doctor said, "You're pregnant; stay home!"

I am going OTR with my Husband when he returns to driving in November. We have wanted to do this for years but I always had a job making good money that was too hard to give up. I became disabled in 2010 and had to go on disability. This makes for a prime opportunity for us to hit the road. I'm a computer geek so I won't have any problem riding shotgun for hours a day as I'll have all my gadgets with me. I may do a little selling on eBay as I have done that in the past. Not that I would really need the money but it certainly wouldn't hurt to pad the retirement fund. It's funny because as I was reading through this thread and cooking was brought up several times I am an excellent cook! Crockpot dishes are my specialty. I bet I could make a few coins rolling down the windows and take the lid off the chili at the J....lol! Being his administrative assistant, keeping him healthy with good food and making sure he gets some exercise in everyday is my main job! It pays well and I get some sweet overtime pay for 10 hours a day :biggrin_25526:

Voice overs for audio books. I'm sure the sound engineers can edit out the road noise and the vulgar language when 4 wheelers / Vendors site does something stupid.

    -Write a novel
    -Write a screen play
    -University of Phoenix
    -Truck driving documentary

Whatever pretends to pay the bills in the future.

Sounds like a crap way to spend time with a spouse without 50/50 earning of pay. ( retired w/ pension and have 2nd career bring along the spouse normal )

Your young life is dictated by the trucking industry, Wouldn't want my spouse to have that dictation and frustration without getting paid $$$ to endure it. Keep her at home, so she has a normal life.

I've had the "normal" life without my Husband and am ready to begin an "abnormal" life WITH him. No guarantees that it will work out or last indefinitely. We both know that. If it happens that either of us have an issue with it then he goes back to driving local and life goes back to "normal". We didn't raise 5 kids and live through 36 years of marriage to be split apart at this stage in life. Money is a factor but not as much as it was when we were raising the kids. Now our hope is to make a little money, see some of the countryside, maybe stop and smell the roses a bit along the way! Fantasy? Maybe, maybe not. We shall see!

Op - sounds like you have a good realistic view going in - I hope it works well for you.

I can't help but wonder though, what the success rate for driving with spouse is?

I'm single, so as you can imagine this sounds like hell on earth to me. I suppose I'd re-evaluate if I was cooped up with Jessica Alba.

I am planning on driving and also taking my wife as a rider. OP only you know how well you get along with your wife. My wife and I are 52 and 60 , she the younger. We are planning to just see the country and maybe enjoy the experience.

I would not be interested in driving alone without her. We really enjoy our time together and will only do it for a few years before I retire.

Been working on airplanes most of my life and just thought I will try something different , not really about the money as it is about the experience.
I hope all works out for you and her, drive safe

Ya know they say. "you know the honeymoon is over when your wife comes in to brush her teeth while your taking a crap". Not gonna be much different with both in the same truck and the cab starts to shrink.

lol. You're probably right, but...JESSIC freakin ALBA. Of course, I'm certain the feelings are mutual.

At this very moment, she's probably sitting in her mansion fantasizing about an overweight trucker who hasn't showered in a couple days.
