All good points. With a high rack, you're only limited by your imagination. If you plan on hauling larger stuff, like dauly's, Sprinters, NCV's, or other 'weird' dimensional stuff, then, yeah, get a NexGen Fastloader. other then that, a high rack is the way to go AND try to get one with the top rails welded to the OUTSIDE of the main posts !!! I hate when the rails are inside !!

I can only assume why it's better to have a high rail with the top rails welded on the outside of the posts. And I'm assuming it's for the extra space on the sides. I'm guessing that extra space makes a lot of difference on the top. Correct me if I'm wrong. I see a lot of them with the top rails on the inside of the posts. How common is it to find a high rail with the rails welded on the outside?

Pretty much 07 and up on a high rail chain trailer the top rails are on the outside of the posts. The next gen (strap) high rails are confusing. Some models I've seen them on the outside and some are on the inside. Oh and this is only true of Cottrells. I'm not sure about other brands like Boystun or Delavans

I'm pretty sure Boydstun is still out of business. As for outside rails on high racks, even after '07, some carriers were STILL spec'ing out high racks with inside rails. Not sure of the reasoning there .... ?????

SQ609 - Putting an F150 on a top position and trying to open the door to get out, with inside rails, is a real hoot. You pretty much have to be as thin as the rail yerself, and weigh only 60 LB. An F350 with tow mirrors won't even lift up past the rails. You'll take the mirrors off when you raise the decks

I'm learning a lot from you guys. I appreciate the info. I'm no rookie to trucking by no means. But as you may have figured out by now I am a newbie to the car hauling genre though. I've done dry van, reefer, and flatbed. I have a couple friends into car hauling that have convinced me to make the switch. I know it's a challenge but I'm up for the challenge.

LOL...I feel like I been drug around by a cat, Mr Hammer.

It wouldn't do any good to complain I guess cause all I'd get around here would be violin emoticons.
But just between me & you, I'm feeling the 40 years of chain yankin' lately and the cooler weather
is not something I'm looking forward to. My days are numbered in the biz according to the way my old bones feel.

If I get much slower, I'll be standing still.
