Looking for an up to date idea of how much money to have access to for training these days? I am thinking 500 but would hate to get caught short.
Cheers,
Gary

That might get you for a week.. Depends on what all you have to buy while at school and for how long.
remember to have enough to buy a ticket home if you figure out that it's not going to work for you. -
When I went to get my cdl I took $1000(I think more but I dont remeber) I figured that would lats me the 2 and a half weeks of cdl Training and a few weeks on the road with trainer untill I got a check. It worked out great for me.

If you have a debit card why wouldn't you have access to all of it?
I hope you're not talking about cash...
$800-$1000 should suffice. -
I don't carry cash. I did get robbed onced the one time I was stupidly carrying $500 on me. I always keep a spare credit card in a safe place. Cash can't be replaced if lost or stolen

I do always have some cash with me on the road... I usually have about $10 to $20 in change, and about $10 to $20 in ones... that is for vending machines. . If I am ever stuck at a shippers, recievers or rest area... I do also keep a mad cash stash.. I have about $700 stashed away.. but, it is cleverly hidden and they would need tools to get to it...
I have two separate accounts set up for me to use on the road... one, is for my general road expenses that I budget for and I only keep just over that amount in it, then I have a other account that I build up for things I want to buy or need.. for example, xm radio, CB, GPS, refrigerator, etc...
My home accounts are separate... and I do have an emergency account set up and I can grab money out of it at any time and put it in whatever account I need...
The thing I have learned over the years is to budget, budget, and budget... dont spend more then you got, and always put some away is savings and some away for emergencies. .. as for retirment, I have my 401k and other stuff set up for that too...
The thing is.. or it seems to me anyway, is that a lot of new drivers do not seem good with money, they dont budget.. if you carry $500 on you, you will spend $500 and wish you had $600... but if you budget and give yourself only $250 a week.. you will make better choices... you wont pay $4 for a sandwich when you can buy the sandwich fixins and make hour own for a dollar a sandwich. .. -
OPUS 7 Thanks this.

$500.00 don't go far you better bring more then that or have a credit card to fall back on.
