Just to throw this into the discussion. Why let the shipper put the monkey on YOUR back? "Sorry folks, the truck aint moving. I have been here for seven hours and FEDERAL REGULATIONS limit my options. You do not have the authority to tell me to drive illegally". Now it's some one elses problem.

That brings up a good point if the customer won't let the driver stay there overnight and just about out of hrs tell them fine im dropping trailer and ill be back after my 10 to pick it up.You're absolutely correct,cust don't have the authority to tell you to run illegal because they failed to get you unloaded in a timely manner.Afterall its there fault for the driver running out of hrs.So what I would do is see how much longer itll be and if awile yet then ask if you can drop trl if they say no then call company and let them deal with it.Too many drivers are in violation because of reasons like this and the driver gets penalized for it.

Look unless your "hubby" has zero experience logging, this is one of them types of situations where it shows no one is thinking. I would have done nothing but stick the log on the sleeper line and moved the truck just enough to get it out of the way of other drivers, then I would of just sat there for one more hour to get that extended drive time. THINK for a moment, one more hour of waiting gives you three hours of drive time and NO violations and no hassles >>>> then you could have taken a 10 hour reset and have a fresh 11/14 hour day.
There you go, another one who sees it.
TO THE OP, the company can't tell you its ok, they don't have the authority to do so.

The cops don't care what your problem is and they do not have the authority to allow you to drive beyond your 10 hours - PERIOD.
Again that is meaningless, that just cover's their butt when they get audited or if you get into an accident. YOU have zero recourse if they say "sure go ahead" if you get hit, it is a log violation.
Line five is not to be used, you have a load, you are under dispatch and line five is a company thing, not an FMCSA thing.
BS, your past violations are not part of the problem if you get into an accident.
Another BS, they have the authority to throw you off the property, there is no proprietary law that allows you to sit on private property because of a regulation. -
Folks..I just have to say this:
Private property is just that..Private property.
You are Allowed onto anothers property to conduct business with them..
If they ask you to leave and I mean before/during or after loading/unloading you..then you had better leave.(period)
I don't know where all this BS comes from about calling the cops on yourself or where people get the idea they can refuse to leave comes from?..but trust me on this..
If someone asks you..and then demands you to leave their property you better do it or face trespass charges..ticketing and/or possible arrest.

This is true,alot of carriers won't allow you to drop trailer same with shps and receivers.That's why its important to keep track of your hrs and ask your company what you should do.There should be a law in place protecting drivers when customers take hrs to get them loaded/unloaded,7 hrs in the dock like this op went thru is a bit much.

What is driving "slow enough" to get off the property during berth time to gain three from resting one? I have heard 25 miles an hour. Is that true?
