apply, apply, and apply. Look everywhere and apply everywhere. you will get a lot of rejections but don't give up. I filled out about 50 applications, got 5 interviews and 3 job offers.

Well you live in Chicago. So there's that. Not worth it at any price.
And I wouldn't really call myself screwed, either.

It definitely helps to be by a major city. But you are passing on bad information. The mMonday to Friday local jobs do exist, they are difficult to get but not at all impossible. Took me 2 months and about 50 apps, before I found the job that I wanted. I was determined not to settle, and not to go OTR away from my kids

Start submitting job applications the first day of CDL school. Ignore "experience required" and apply anyway; companies are bending their own hiring rules these days due to a shortage of quality applicants. Submit online applications before any phone calls so the companies have something to look at if you do call later.

Have you ever even been to the Chicago area? I have lived in the suburbs my whole life, it is a good place to live and a great place to raise a family. And yes I have been to a lot of other parts of the country.
And Its not about the money. I wouldn't go OTR and be away from my family for any amount of money

I agree with this. I'm avoiding otr at all costs. Since last week I've submitted about 25 applications and have already been on 4 interviews for local jobs. And I only got my liscence in august. I could start working for one of the companies tomorrow if I wanted but I have another interview to go to on Wednesday. Just ignore all the experience required on the job ads. If you have a solid work history and are personable and have a good attitude when you talk to them you just never know ď

TWIC is for entering sea ports, chemical plants and some military facilities. If you don't have a TWIC card, you may wait hours for an escort to enter these facilities, plus they charge maybe $150.00, give or take, for the escort service.

    Passport is for Canada runs.

    Google for nearest TWIC office.

I hope you get what you want. You are doing it right. Most people just jump on the first offer they get
