Im try to put together info on if it would be worth it to move freight locally meaning to and from close citys to where you could go out and be home each day. I live in the Indianapolis area.

Are there any owner ops or contractors that run like this and how is it?
What do u use straight or combination? How available is freight?

Any info would a great. Thanx.

You know a location would help.

Don't know much about that area, but it is possible. Look around for local flatbed companies that haul steel or building materials. That is one way. Next is to pull a dump trailer or haul fuel. Those are local, but not what you specified. Asking this in the ltl section may be better.

to me that sounds like hell to be home every night in Indianapolis. You could try a few intermodal gigs out?

Why does that sound like hell? The intermodal part would be hell.

Indiana is good for freight, or it has been for me. You shouldn't have an issue with local work with all the little factories and some medium sized businesses within 100 miles of there.

All depends on when and where the freights go and at what time. I do intermodal around the twin cities m-f and sometimes a bad move could be a few hour delay mistake

Direct Contracts: survey manufacturers in your area, look to see if they are seasonally bringing in produce from the fields to their plant for processing. Or some other type of Company that is making a "widgit" and need to store their product at an off site warehouse until product is shipped. These companies will either pay on a set rate or require a bid...but your late for showtime.

What type of freight are you looking for? Flatbed, inter modal, van.... Indianapolis is a good freight area. If you are willing to service into and out of Chicago its a great area. Gary, In is also another great hub. look around at some carriers call and talk to them to see what they have available. Not going to pitch to ya but i know we have some drivers doing some pretty solid runs in that area. Just call some carriers and see what they will offer ya.
