Not necessarily. Truck restrictions can be put in place at the lowest levels of government, and when that happens at the county or municipal level they likely won't appear in the atlas.

I personally think only the state should have the authority to do such things, so they can all be catalogued and easily located. If folks were so concerned about keeping trucks off of certain roads so their property values don't get affected, or whatever, maybe they should think about lobbying the state in which they live to put such a requirement in place.

Shirt and tie may work but remember it's all a racket. Judges are ex - lawyers and in the legal profession they all want to want to get paid. In some court rooms they won't here a word you say without an attorney. I had wreck due to weight shift of the load and the lawyer couldn't explain it. He told me to explain it to the judge and she threw out ticket. I'm sure that I wouldn't have got the chance without a attorney. You pay the attorney but it is worth it to preserve my record. My son went to court with shirt and tie and he's a humble kid but didn't take my attorney advice and judge did nothing for him. He's also a clean cut kid with a decent driving record. It all depends on where you are at.

That's true and Calif hates trks. They'll do anything to fine the driver.Don't know how bad this no trk route was but I bet not too bad since it had an exit. But still you shouldn't depend on the GPS for routing especially in a state that hates trucks and all on the northeast.

Fact is, we create this anti-truck mentality ourselves. You know, I live on a hill. The coal guys pass the flashing light up above and 45 mph sign, pour on the coals and let their jakes reverberate a mile into the woods at the highest setting so they've got the revs and speed at the bridge at bottom.

I'm right on the highway. You should hear these unmuffled trucks.

We have a noise ordinance and, sadly, I'm going to insist that the new sheriff start enforcing.

Whichever one gets elected, that is.

    Interesting.....

I just want to thank each and every one of you for posting your opinions. You guys are amazing. Of course we have The typical "toothless, smoking, grouchy, smelly drivers" here tossing their 2 cents. But at the end of the day those are the ones that make this forum fun. Let's keep rolling theme wheels amigos.

Hey 99, don't feel bad, laddie, anybody that says stuff like this never happened to them, has a short memory. This is part of driving a truck, and we've all had run-ins like this, just due to the nature of the business. Makes you an experienced truck driver. Pay the fine, hop back in the saddle, and carry on.

FYI, Rand McNally does make local atlases. I have a stack of 'em. One for every major city.

by the way, my old garmin 465t says 85 is a restricted route, and will not route a truck that way... I delivered between the 580 and 880 all the time.

GPS, Google Maps, Trucking Atlas, they are all just "tools of the trade." They are there to help you, and they will, usually. But you still have to use common sense, and keep your eyes open and your wits about you. And even then, fact is that sooner or later, you are going to make a mistake. So deal with it, in whatever way you deem necessary. But I see no call to throw stones at people who A) Love the GPS and wouldn't be without it. B) Hate the GPS and won't have it in your truck. Free choice for what tools you use.

I can see how that would get annoying. The thing is no truck routes aren't all that numerous in the grand scheme of things. Some roads I wish they would turn into no truck routes because they are extremely difficult to drive, I'm thinking West Virginia coal roads here and some small Pennsylvania towns. Point is they exist, we deal with it so it's not that big of a deal.
