I FEEL LIKE YOU SOLD OUT BECAUSE YOUR NOW PROMOTING THE LEASE PROGRAM AT SNI.
First and foremost I am not promoting anything . I made a business decision that was mutually benefical for both my family and my business. The other key thing to look at that I would like to bring up is that a single operator with no warranty has a up hill road to climb and it is not a easy hill to climb . The current REPO RATE for single truck owners are up to a all time high ( ref berkshire ) and a truck you could buy at 10% down 3 years ago will cost you roughly 20% down today . Why such a high repo rate ? 70% of repos are due to the owner not having the capital or aval credit to do the major repair needed . Its not a easy business to be in .
Just because you have 20k in the bank doesnt mean you can blow it , in fact thats what reports say most new operators do is blow the profits and have no back up plan. As i have stated a WARRANTY is worth its weight in gold .
The lease through Schneider Finance makes it acheivable to stay under warranty and be done and then renew to another new unit and stay UNDER WARRANTY.......
The great thing about business is that there really is no right or wrong answer because it all depends on YOU. Some feel that TRUCK OWNERSHIP gives you great freedom or ability to go as you wish and make more business decisions . When the fact is YOU CAN DO THE SAME WITH A LEASE . Schneider will allow you to take your truck to approved carriers if you wish and are not happy with SNI (not sure why you wouldnt be but hey )
More Single Truck owners are CASHING OUT just as I did and entering a LEASE or going COMPANY . Not because you cant be successful but because its a hard business to be in and around every turn lays an obsticle . Its much easier to enter into a LEASE and stay under the protection of a WARRANTY and leave all the repairs to the big riggers. The primiss of a LEASE is to give you the ability to TRADE UP every lease cycle and stay under warranty and move forward . It makes complete business since to do so because heres the deal .
LEASE
1. You will not have any majors come out of your pocket book
2. Most likely if you lease NEW you will not have any break or drum expenses ( depending on your driving habbits )
3. Tires will be roughly at the end of the cycle leaving you to maybe only have to purchase maybe 1 set of steers and dependent upon you watching your tire pressure etc.. and wear patterns .
OWNING A TRUCK
You most likely have no warranty and if you do its a aftermarket one which requires a diagnosis to get any thing paid and they DO NOT COVER WHAT THEY CALL - NORMAL WEAR ... Who pays for that tow bill and diagnosis ... YOU DO...
Its allot to think about and you must weigh out the pros and the cons
Lots of folks go from LEASE to OWNERSHIP as a attempt to sometimes save on monthly payments but in the end if you get hit with a major you saved nothing at all... BEEN THERE DONE THAT ... got the battle scars .
At the end of the day ...
YOUR THE CAPTIAN OF YOUR SHIP
&
YOU CONTROL YOUR OWN DESTINY
The real question is ... WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO...

I can't remember the name of the accounting service SF offers free for a period of time upon leasing with them, but how are they overall?
Yes, in my continuing battle of my own mind, and after long talks with my wife, other SNI L/Os, and someone I highly respect in all areas of life, I've decided to pursue this option next March.
March because come Feb. 7th, I have two fresh weeks of vacation at Crete, and that will make transitioning easier (assuming I pass all the application processes). Their program and freight base just match up with my overall personal needs and current situation better than anything else, and offer a level of relative security.
Looking forward to reading more on these threads in the next few months. Thanks to all for sharing your experiences. -
ATBS is the accounting they offer
