I have been working overseas for about 8 contracts and my home of record and permanent residence is the state of Ohio. Have a farm, household, business there. I will be coming down shortly to the Texas region, and I will maintain my Ohio CDL A as that is my home of record, also where all paychecks go. As long as I work in Texas, I will not need to get a Texas license. Once I would maintain a Permanent residence in Texas, things would change.

    Hello,

my my brother and I are considering buying a 1 ton truck and trailer and haul for the oil field. Does anyone know if this can be done if I have my CDL and my brother does not? Would he have to have a CDL for this to work?

If he drives yes. Sounds like you got a lot to learn before being an OO.

I am an o/o now but with a big rig not a hot shot I just didn't know if there would be enough freight with hotshot to keep us moving and light enough so that he could team drive with me. I am new to the hotshot thing.

No state income tax in Tx. You might be able to save a bunch getting Tx license and a legal address there.

Agreed. I'm a Colorado native and I save a crap ton of money not paying state taxes.

Thanks for the suggestion will keep that under advise if we decide to ever get a place in Texas, but with rentals in Ohio and a farm, also oil wells, etc.... have to maintain the residency, and also we get tax break for either a foreign household or a second household, and also business and working expenses also come out of that. so all in all, accounting wise, my wife is accountant for us, she says the little money paid in state tax will be reversed with the legal out of state deductions. But Texas may be the place to be, I think there is a song to that....... maybe Jed Clampett said this about when the "Texas tea" came bubbling thru!! Thank you .

Well the first thing you know ol' Jed's a millionaire. Kin folks said "Jed move away from there!" said "Californy is the place ya oughta be!" So they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverly.

Ok, I've been applying to Frac Sand hauling companies in Texas and can't get an answer back from them...what gives? I have 27 years OTR including tanker and pneumatic bulkers which is what I'm doing now in Alberta Canada! If anybody has any leads, they would be much apreciated. Thanks

For anyone wondering why I would think of going south for less pay, here's why: Extreme Cold Warning in effect for:

City of Edmonton - St. Albert - Sherwood Park. This also applies to northern Alberta, including the Grande Prairie region.

A period of very cold wind chills will continue this morning before moderating as daytime temperatures rise. However, extreme cold conditions for many regions will likely return tonight as temperatures plummet once again.

    Grande Prairie weather:

High of minus 29. Extreme wind chill down to minus 43 this morning. Tonight, low of minus 33. Extreme windchill down to minus 48.

    Edmonton weather:

High of minus 21. Extreme wind chill down to minus 38 this morning.

    Bundle up, kids.....
