I caught a cold a couple of weeks ago. It is supposedly gone, but my chest didn't get the memo. How do you dry this stuff up and get rid of it? I worry about cold medicines getting me in trouble but I would like to finish sentences without coughing for two minutes.
Mucus overstayed it's welcome

Time is your best friend here. I know it sucks, but you are right with the cold medicine. Should you have a crash while you are on it, you are likely toast.

Whenever I get nasty like that I start drinking water. One liter per hour. It is usually gone by the next day.

I am a big fan of dayquil. 100% non drowsy. I carry tums, ib profin, and dayquil in the truck (in the original packages so there is no question as to what they are) before I drove a truck I was a big fan of nyquil to help get a good night's sleep but I wouldn't carry anything that makes me drowsy in the truck. Dayquil works well for me but not my wife. She prefers Clairton.

Expecterant and water should clear your lungs out. If it doesn't you have something else that requires antibiotics and won't go away without them.
