Reefer pays MORE per mile but you blow soo much time compared to Schneider , for example waiting in line for trailer washouts.. waiting to get live load/unloaded and all those set appointment times.
Compare that open window appointments that are drop and hook, think how productive of a day you can plan out doing that.
The higher rates come with MORE WAIT TIME.
When I'm out in a truck I don't want to wait around, I want to work and get my money. If the reefer load pays $15 a mile, sure I'll wait for it lol.
I'm currently a Shaffer driver and see Prime a lot at the same shippers, there has been many times they blew 5-7 hours waiting to get loaded just as myself.
It's not fun man, I HATE blowing half my 14 hour clock waiting to get loaded/unloaded.
The Crete drivers here earn more money than the Shaffer drivers.. that's as company drivers and Shaffer drivers getting .01 more but the miles are less.
That's right, I'm dealing with Reefer craziness for LESS money.
Plus my sleep is all jacked up...
When you have a dispatcher they can give you a reefer load delivering at 2am, the time you're normally asleep.. oh well got to force yourself to change your sleep schedule over and over again once again.
If you're planning yourself you can actually plan yourself to have normal sleep if you want, which is something I certainly don't have now.
Oh the joy of when I've only been awake 5 hours but MUST force myself to sleep and take a 10 hour break because of a BS load delivering at some ridiculous time.
I have no issue driving at night, in fact I enjoy it more (besides during winter) what sucks is going from night shift to day shift back to night shift... every other day! Try doing that for weeks at a time, sounds crazy but that's kinda my lifestyle now as a Reefer Shaffer driver.
what the point of money if you hate your life lol
I WILL say I left my first company averaging $500-600 a week for a 7 day work period to now about $1200 at Shaffer (with less than 1 year exp at well). I'm not bashing my current company, I'm grateful for the better job.. it's just the reefer lifestyle.Last edited: Nov 10, 2014

It's a wacky system because team drivers don't get hit by this the way you'd think.
However if you complete your lease you get a big bonus check. After 3 years I've heard most get over 10 grand. -
I did the Prime lease 4 years ago. Run...Run as fast as you can AWAY from it. The over mileage fee may have changed when I was there but it was .11 for me. There is a lot more waiting time as well. I went to the meat patch and sat for 2 days waiting on a load, and it wasn't even loaded on my empty I dropped. My average that I netted after all expenses was $500-$550. I posted a little bit more a bit about a couple of pages ago.
Jar-Head Thanks this. -
I heard it was 0.11 also just waiting to confirm I'm not gonna away anyone one way or the other . If anyone wants info on the Schneider Choice Deal then I'm the guy but I'm not gonna bash others but will try to get Info .
My personal thought is it's not 1/2 as good as we have it at SNI but to each their own .
I'm not recruiting people to SNI so I have no dog in the fight but if SNI is where you want to be I'll jump as many hurdles as needed to get you the info you want or need as it pertains to this programBoethel and T_TRUCKER⢠Thank this. -
Jar head can you tell me if there is any way around the hiring area? I'm 1 1/2 outside it. They hire only teams in my area, I've waited all day for Jennifer to call me back and nothing yet
