I would think that move could eliminate jumping from truck to dock and back to truck. Could be a good thing.

1- The dock workers are hired through a "temp" service. No benefits for Con-way, taxes, workers comp, etc.
2- Cheap wages. Average dock hand is $12-14/ hr where the drivers are $21-25.
DOWNSIDES:
This year Co-way has announced that through the 3rd qtr ytd our damages are pacing what they were last year total, and we have a quarter to go. The temporary hands have little or no experience in the freight business, and when they find out what the wage difference is they typically get a bad attitude. The weather is a factor, as we all know how cold and hot the dock can be. The turnover rate is pretty high, there are few if ANY tenured dock hands.6 Speed Thanks this. -
