Always held the notion (after being told as a rookie in '03 that to help keep your tanks ice free always fill tanks up before you park in freezing weather. Only had one issue so far and that was 2 years ago and I was in Northern Minnesota where the wind chill and temp was -30 or -40. Reefer tank froze up and cap was incased in ice and had to stick trailer in a shop to defrost in order to ungel the tank.

I idled my truck anytime under 30 or below one reason is I don't like my bunk heater it runs down the battery and you will need all that power trying to start when the temps drop like that... and my bunk heater is like JAIL HEAT

With having a properly running apu there's no need to idle until you drop into the negatives and even then I didn't idle. But as I have always been told...... To each their own. What works for one person does not always work for the next person.

What kind of mpg do the t660's get vs the evolution? I will be in orientation on Dec. 8th.

from what most are saying about 6.5 to 6.8 depending on the driver. I would bet you would get a freight liner though as less and less of the t660s are rolling out.

I think its a catch 22 LOL . If I idle I burn about 30 bucks in fuel if I dont and it gels then im out like 600 bucks. I choose the cheaper and safer and am idling as its already -1 in the lot here. its supposed to hit -11 or so.

I agree 100% with you. At an average of $3.67 per gallon at 10 hours, that's around $40 per day in wasted fuel.....and when your truck does a parked regen, it's even more. So at around $45 per shift for just 4 days, that's almost $200 per week.

My APU has always worked fine in temps of -20°.
Never had a gel problem. The only problem I can truly say about being in those freezing temps is getting outta my toasty truck and stepping outside.

Like you said, to each his own, but I can't justify wasting my hard earn money. That's like 9 lap dances. :biggrin_2551: But seriously, those that idle when it hits 30° are gonna run your business out of business in one winter.

The reason i idle my truck under 30 is two i dont like the bunk heater bc it sends out jail house heat to much i like to be comfy!! And my bunk heater drains down my battery alot..im not going to run my business out of business.....you run your business out of business when you sit there and truck off at 30 temps fall below 0 and that tow truck come out there to un gel you or you sitting at the truck stop waiting to get un gel.....look up you was on a 10hr break now your break 15hrs then you may have to relay your load bc you stuck sitting somewhere
