If you idle an engine, what about all that soot buildup that the engine is producing???

Most of the engines today shouldn't be idled or you run the risk of expensive repairs...

Idling the truck equals you having to do a parked regen when you are ready to go. My last company I was with didn't have apus on the truck and my bunk heated didn't work. Had to idle the truck for a/c and heat. Always had to do a parked regen after 10hrs.

Since I have been here since March, I have never had to do a parked regent because I don't idle the truck.

Why would you need a parked regen every time?

The dpf doesn't get hot enough when you idle. So, it can't keep the crap from building up on it. That's why a parked regen idles you engine at 1500rpm. It is getting the dpf hot enough to burn off the crap in the dpf.

Side note: not sure why, but while walking back to the Colton yard, there was a dude running down the road butt ### naked. Holding his clothes like he was caught sleeping with another dudes girl.

Thats what that def system is for...listen you guys i dont idle the truck all day every day and most nights the truck be off during the summer truck of... If my truck blow good heat like i like truck will be off ....but to each its own ......in the winter when temps drop below freezing you are risking a chance of geling up esp. When you are useing that out south fuel

It's called trip planning.... That is what I did when I owned my own truck...

Whenever I was headed from the south to going up North, I would shut off the right tank and run off the left tank.. I would add #1 fuel blend to that left tank.. Had to fuel up a little more often but kept the idle down and soon as I was outa that cold area, would open the right tank again...
Also had a Racor water/fuel separator with it being heated, help a little and the return line was fed back into the left tank...

Retired in 1997, so don't really know what they do today, especially with these new engines...

They just run them because they all have fuel returns now.
