Acert were met to match other egr engines but seems power doesn't help. My MBN was the engine for acert developments. The designed for egr engines. Result: blowin smoke, bad fuel mileage, and not a powerful turbo. Then EPA07 acert proven more worser. They quit selling on highway. International took their idea. Their 13L looks like a c-13. Their 15L look like c-15. Maxxforce got twin turbos, proved to worse engine ever.

I'd build it whichever way cat will warranty it ... Times are changing and shops are more careful now ... If warranty is a concern discuss it with whoever is building it for you

There is no Egr valve on a Acert. The IVA valves take the place of the of the EGR on the Acert. The biggest thing is most don't understand the Acert technology. Turning one up helps none if you have a problem with the base engine. Most turn one up because they don't know they have a problem with the base engine. Also we are saying use a non IVA head but keep the twins. The IVA valves are where all the problems with the Acerts came from.

    Cetane+ Thanks this.

    Hi all!!
First off, I am very sorry for not responding to any messages posted on here in a while.

Second, I appreciate all of your inputs and advice. I know this topic of 1 turbo vs 2 turbos and so forth can go on and on.

The hardest part for me was to figure out what was going to be the best option for me and how much $ would go into the new motor / overhaul.

So here is what I ended up doing and some of the results I can report so far.

Found a used 2006 MXS ACert
It came out of a wrecked 2007 Western Star
Had 289K original miles on motor
Previous owner had it turned up to 600HP
Since coming out of a Western Star there was more part swap than I was hoping for. But all parts off my blown BXS motor were transferred over. Only new mechanical motor part I did need to buy was a new oil pump. Western Star has the forward sump whereas the 379 has the rear sump.
Also had the flywheel turned down.

And since the Transmission was on the floor. Did a full overhaul and replaced a few gears and sliding clutch that was showing some wear. The mechanic also installed the new Eaton Isolator Kit. At first I did not think that was necessary. But after driving it. I am very glad he recommended it and did install it. The shift lever is so much smoother movement with the isolator kit!!!

And brand new Eaton 2050 RPM torque clutch. I know some of you will ask why? since my motor only puts out 1850 RPM, but I guess for a bit more $$ I get a heavier clutch. Replaced various clutch pedal parts. New fork and all new shafts on the fork.

I have only been able to drive as bobtail so more feedback to come once I get a load behind it.

But here are initial feedback from me and my mechanic:
    - The motor fired up after only 3 turn overs!!!
    - No smoke
    - The first time I showed up and the transmission was just installed. I walked up to the truck and could not believe just how quiet and non-shaking idle. I was amazed at how quiet it was. More on that is that the next day the Mechanic used his laptop to even make it idle more smoother by adjusting the fuel numbers.
    - The first drive we took off from North Bend, WA and headed up I90 EB towards Snoqualimie Pass. Mechanic was driving the truck and I was holding his laptop to get the first initial ECM settings and what the motor was doing.
I was again amazed how quiet and smooth it ran.
Mechanic's one thing he wanted me to watch was the boost level. So that I did. At first I was getting excited as he hit 45psi. But he was NOT done shifting just yet. I kept watching the boost via the computer.... And holy cow, he hit a maximum of 62psi on the test drive. I was BLOWN away. I had no idea that was possible. I guess I have read about some ACERT's hitting high turbo boost. But, I guess it's more believable when you actually see it on the screen, feel it and hear it!!
Oh and the jake brake... It worked and sounded alive. My old BXS jake brake was a bit dull and sad.

One more thing to mention. The previous owner did do the Feul temp mod and Air intake temp mod. Per the computer it says the fuel temp is constantly at 188 degrees.
Question I have here is.... I thought most recommended you want the fuel temp to be around 170 degrees...??
Is the 188 degree fuel temp too high? I am guessing no since it ran just fine.
And any idea how much more HP I am getting with this mod? 25-30 HP??

I now have the truck back home. Drove it 20 miles from shop to my house. So far I love the feel and response and sound of what's going on under that hood. I can't wait to get a load behind it. One thing that I will definitely have to keep my eye on is my speed. Just driving it back over the 20 miles. I was amazed how I got into my top gear. I looked down at speedo and I was already doing 85mph!!! That's the last thing I need is a speeding ticket!!! I will be using the cruise control a lot more than I used to.

So, that is all I have for now.

THANK YOU all again for all your input and feedback.

I promise to post something sooner this time once I get a few loads behind my Pete.

no the fuel temp at 188 is tricking the ecm to adjust for more fuel to compensate for what it thinks is hot fuel. your fuel is not actually that temp. unless you run with low fuel in the tanks after running all day. it works well on a full tank of fuel or when you first start in the morning when fuel has cooled off overnight.

Sound like a strong tune if you hit 62 psi bobtail .. Nice to hear you have a mechanic who goes the extra mile to make you happy .. Play nice with that power lol

Oh - Yes. I was aware of that. The way I wrote did not make sense.

I was asking if the 188 temp trick/mod was ok?
