On the Schneider website they say that all their trailers have tracking devices. Are those only active when the trailer is hooked to a power unit? The reason I ask is that on more than one occasion I've read where drivers (both company and IC's) have been on the "MT Hunt". So if all trailers can be tracked how is they don't know where they are?

When I was with Roehl searching for an MT (albeit infrequent) was a PITA. What was even more irritating was hooking to a trailer only to find you couldn't move the tandems, a flat tire, leaking air, doors with broken latches, faulty lights, etc. Then you have to take it somewhere to be repaired or wait while the mobile shop shows up so you can start your run. You know darn well the driver that dropped the trailer knew there was a problem, but rather than take care of it they leave it for the next schmuck to show up. Do you have those issues at SNI or is the driver base more courteous and responsible?

I too was was following JH's thread, it was helpful for me initially - then mildly entertaining, then sadly immature. Amazing how quickly it got "fugly" got over there. So much for acting like adults. Just sayin'....

just like any company there are those who don't do their job 100 percent of the time as far as empty trailer surges it just depends on the market and the time of year a lot of times you go places and there's actually an empty the customer just won't release it so there we go off on another empty search not because there was no empty just because customer won't release it. I would say most drivers do a decent pre trip and it gets written up however there are a few or many who don't and then you are stuck holding the bed trailer however personally if I get sent somewhere and there's a bad trailer I send in the message the trailers bad and find another one even if I have to go looking it takes less time to look for a new trailer then it does to sit around and wait for emergency maintenance

The trailer tracking technology is sadly lacking IMO..... Sometimes I grab a trailer and the box planners say I can't possibly have that trailer, it's 1000 miles away in 'insert state here'....

Yeah I especially love it when I drop an empty and the box planner lights up the qualcomm with messages (after I've left the customer, and am rolling of course) telling me to stop and send in the license plate # on the empty (that I already dropped at the customer 10 miles back), because they don't believe that I dropped the empty trailer. I just laugh and close the message and stomp on it. Morons.

the problem with trailer tracking is when they first started putting it in back in the mid 2000 the batteries would only stay charged about an hour after you unplugged it from the tractor so then they couldn't ping the trailers to see where they were at then they put the solar panel on them to charge the batteries but then Sni change its operating platform system and the software didn't match up so it went from the battery not lasting to now the software doesn't match to where they can't tell where the trailers are big waste of money but somebody in Green Bay kept their job for a while
