Yesterday I had to have chains on from just east of Portland all the way to Mt. Hood, took the chains off for a while, then got to Pendleton and had to chain up again at the bottom of Cabbage and drove to North Powder where I took them off and drive to Boise where it was snowing real good. This morning the town was an ice rink. Took me 13 hours to go from Portland to Meridian.
Big Don Thanks this. -
According to tripcheck.com there is still chain law from Cascade Locks to Hood River. Road looks dry, and as we all know, ODOT doesn't update often. You know, because who wants to know what the roads look like......

Oregon on is the worst state for taken care of roads. I jumped on hwy 14 in Washington from Hood River, and roads were fine, yet the same storm hit both sides.dca Thanks this. -
Well...CHAINS REQUIRED...for Snoqualmie Pass to Cle Elum. They are having you put the chains on at the T/A and the road is a mess. A good 8-10 inches of wet snow, and didn't see one plow on the eastbound side. Traffic was a nightmare up there.

There's gonna be some snow in the PNW this weekend! Calling for snow on snoqualmie and Donner. Got a question. Thinking of doing away with the bungee straps and using the spider straps. What do you think?
-
^Spider straps are the way to go.
I'll be heading out to Sunnyside from Tacoma Sunday night. Lets see if theres snow.joseph1135 Thanks this. -
Awesome. I'm gonna grab 2 pair.

Spider straps are not all they are promoted! Lose one "leg" reduces the overall tension effectiveness, add to the fact that the round "sponge rubber" is not as resilient as the true rubber of a bungee. The spider straps don't last as long as the bungee due to the freezing/thawing diminishes the strength upon each application and removal. While the "thought process" and the "promotion" is excellent, the cost factor of replacing the set when one breaks is also a negative when you factor in replacement expense...bungees come in sets of 10-12-or 25. Just do the math...
Yeah I'm old fashioned and set in my ways...but I still use my rubbers! ....in the snow with chains.... ....gave up the whips years ago!joseph1135, striker, double yellow and 1 other person Thank this. -
