When I left my OTR job for this local gig, I gave them three weeks notice. They called me in the office and begged me to stay. Offered a new daycab which I could take home everyday. I refused their offer, thanked them for the opportunity to work for them. They thanked me and told me they'll always have a job for me if I ever wanna come back.

I stayed on with them part time until I knew the new gig would work out, which it has. But I'd go back in a second if needed.

This was a company with 200 trucks....

So, yeah, give two weeks. Its the right thing to do

There are some good honest companies out there but anymore they're few and far between. When I quit Werner while on hometime I was surprised I got my $500.00 pet deposit back.

One thing I will not ever do when I quit is leave the trk a complete mess.My goal when cleaning the trk is thinking about the other driver. With Gainey the truck looked a lot better after I cleaned it and kept it clean then when it was issued to me.They was'nt so nice,I didn't get my pet deposit back and they also shut off my fuel card.Told my dispatcher you either turn it on or you're not going to get your trk back.He then turned it on for 50 gallons.

Biggest thing is to THINK before you QUIT , I had 1 driver that up and quit while on the WEST COAST, I asked him when he called if he was giving 2 weeks notice , he said HELL NO I QUIT NOW, he had fun getting home with all his stuff, had a team near by that picked up his truck / trailer and company cell phone. He had all his stuff piled next to the truck when they arrived and $5.00 in his pocket and no phone. His girlfriend who he quit for ( she wanted him home more ) cleaned out his bank account the next day.

We use DAC , just listed on his quit without NOTICE and that's is what he did, had he said he wanted to quit when he got home he would have been better off as I honor a NOTICE but being HOT HEADED he lost a ride home and a girl friend and his $.

Beg to differ here pattyj.....Even if a company does'nt do right by you , the right thing to do is give them a notice , 2 weeks is customary , but not required anywhere...it's just called doing what's right. You might be correct in thinking that not too many drivers give a 2 weeks notice idk , but one thing is for sure the ones that do give an employer a notice like that aren't out of work long , and they more often than not get the better jobs. Just saying , doing what's right never hurts you....not doing what's right can and usually does.

You need to be careful with this, if it's a decent company no problem. Crappy company will get you a load to timbuktu and drop you there to fend for your own way home. Trust no one, best time to quit is at your home terminal just let them know its not them , its you LOLOL ;)
