During your first year with Stevens Transport, how many States did you drive through?

    Shaffer, the North East Fleet...

There are many reasons people choose to work where they do. Money is but one of them, CPM is a part of that, bit only a part.

Personally I like the Coast to Coast driving I do. It may take two or three loads as a Solo driver, but I do go back and forth throughout the year. I am not stuck doing short shuttle Mass to Ohio and back loads.

My average miles per.load is over 1000 miles. I just did 3 loads since leaving the yard and heading home. 3 loads, 3400 miles 8 days, an average of 1133 miles. Texas to Missouri to Illinois to Wyoming to Nebraska to New Jersey.

I know people who have driven for Shaffer, they are no longer that for various reasons, each unique to them.

It is apparent some peoes self esteem is somehow tied to who they work for or how much CPM they are getting or what have you, but the fact is if that is your measure of what is good in life or about a job or a company, you are missing the larger picture, you are missing this adventure called life, you do not understand the true nature of the universe and you are simply ####### yourself out to the almighty dollar.

Truth is, if Money is the overriding thing you are persuing, your kind of a dumb ### for being a truck driver. There is a lot more money to he made in other fields.

Finding the feathers that tickle your own fancy is the key. CPM is one factor, equipment another, and route structure a third; there are many others, too. For me, it's never been primarily about money; equipment and how quickly the company resolves equipment malfunctions are keys to my success, plus having a greater challenge than just moving freight from Here to There on time. I am at the age when I want to stop working in retirement; keeping my brain active and engaged is very important, which is why I'm seriously considering leasing in my near future.

We each need to find what makes us happy or we become dissatisfied with our choices. That is not an easy task, as many new-entry drivers learn during Year 1.

I agree money isn't everything, if it was I would be on the Shaffer Northeast regional account. Or go be a union car hauler etc or something.
This is a lifestyle and it is important to be happy with your life.
I'm simply comparing OTR to OTR and CPM is the main pay indicator for OTR drivers.
Greed isn't the topic but rather being paid fairy and .28 CPM is not fair pay.. that's taking advantage of the driver.

I'd gladly take a pay to for coast to coast runs and no Northeast but not for .10+ less per mile though.

FYI I am leaving Shaffer this week and joining Schneider to work off their load board.. not so much for the pay but rather the freedom and adventure.

CPM is only a part of the equation, the other is the miles one drives. $10 a miles is nice but if you only drive 10 miles a week, that's $100.

The .28 lasts from when one finishes with the trainer, until they hit their 6 month anniversary from date of hire, there are two increases before the first year is over.

What I don't understand is why you are in here concerned with what others are doing? You have never worked for Stevens right? You really don't know the whole story and just keep repeating CPM...

    .40 x 2000 is $800... .30 x 3000 is $900... CPM is only a part of the equation.

Why are you pushing students toward Prime and not Shaffer?

As a Shaffer I have been in docks next to Stevens drivers and talk to them. Most always they have really pretty trucks but they tell me they aren't making much money.
Yes I know miles miles how many miles etc etc.
Work smarter not harder that's all I gotta say.

lol just because I work here doesn't mean I'm recruiting for my company.
I think Prime has a better program and pays students better than Shaffer.... STARTING out. Shaffer after one year pays .48 CPM
Shaffer just gave a raise, I think noobs here will start out at .39 CPM here now.
The only thing Shaffer/Crete has over Prime for training is that trainers here are required to have 3 years experience where as Prime is only 1 year experience to be a trainer.

So you're a recruiter for PRIME then, but work for Shaffer. Did you start at Prime?

I know two people who left Shaffer because they were not getting enough miles to make a decent living. Usually each persons experience is unique to them and the reasons one does or does not get miles is also unique to them.

Work smarter not harder... 3200 miles on 3 loads, to me is a lot smarter than 2500 on 5 or 6 loads, but that's just me, some people prefer sitting in a dock I guess, me I like the open road.
