Anyone who has ever had a trainer will tell you it sucked. Mine was a nice guy but we didn't see eye to eye on things . I didn't listen to the radio for three weeks......bored out of my MIND! Also, he loved to sleep in his birthday suit.....ugh.
I don't mind going solo at all after that lol. Swift has a long training path but once you get out of that phase things will not get easier it will be tough for a few months until you get use to the little frustrations that every trucker goes through at some time or another. Its worth it in the end. I did OTR for a few months and found me a local job that only required 4 months experience for a home every night job. So just hang in there until you can find a local gig. I searched hard on all the trucking companies near me and I got a job that wasn't even posted on their website so it doesn't hurt to call and ask if they have any other local jobs. Good luck driver!

Breathe in, breathe out. You're still a kid yet. And still very new. I think when you're on your own and have some of that freedom, you'll be ok. If not, try to stick it out for a year and bank some cash. You've got your CDL. If it doesn't work now, it'll be here later too for you. This isn't for everyone, though. And at least you tried, and then you'll know. Keep us posted and don't be afraid to ask for advice. Good luck!

Absolutely wait till you are your own and can do it your way.

My training experience was a company horror story. I'll admit I almost cried rolling back into my hometown after a good 4 months or so running purely Northeast.

Yes....I got to learn how to drive on my own around Connecticut/boston/Worcester

Nothing like blind siding off an alley into a construction site blocking hospital traffic meanwhile getting yelled at by 30 construction workers with those stupid accents xD.....good memories....good times...ugggggg.

It only gets easier the longer you do this.
Not that difficult to begin with.

I agree, especially with Mr.X. If you've gotten this far, stay with it. I went into this business 40 years ago, because I wanted to be alone. I can count on 1 finger, how many times I had someone ride along for an "evaluation", and I didn't like it one bit. Nowadays, and I'm not ripping on you at all, but younger people don't deal with unpleasant situations much anymore, so when one comes up, like having a trainer with you, its unbearable. Any time I went to a new job, the new boss would check my references, or a ride around the block, and basically, threw me the keys, and said get going. Well, we don't have that now, and that's too bad, but that's the way it is, and it ain't gonna change. Hang in there. Think of it this way, it can only get better. Good luck. The industry needs new drivers like you.

Meh not much my dude took 2 showers the entire month and wouldn't let me run the air conditioner because the fat midget would get cold. Dunno how seeing how he was screaming at his wife the entire time on the phone while leaning forward blocking my mirrors. For example :)

My trainer was pretty bad. He'd yell a lot and nit pick everything. One night I pulled over at like 2am and told him, I'm going to grab some rack, even with a nap I had more than enough time to complete the run. The maniac gets behind the wheel, mind you he was asleep in the passenger seat when I pulled over. I wake up to him all over the rumble strips falling asleep at the wheel.

If you don't like the OTR lifestyle, it's not like your driving career is over. Tons of opportunities. My best advice is to stick it out for the whole year with the same company. Once you get that year under your belt, opportunities will really open up. Get hazmat and tankers and apply with a good company after your one year. Tough it out.

    To add to Icsheeple's post,

    6 months experience:
    70% of all jobs

    1 year experience:
    90% of all jobs

2 years experience: (with proper endorsements of course)
+99% of all jobs in this field

100% comes after 10 years, Walmart is pretty picky!
