With 1 month of experience there could be many reasons why he is getting short runs. Is he getting his miles for the week? As a new driver your only concern should be not wrecking the truck, pissing off the customers, and not getting any tickets.
Some company's won't even run a newbie out west till they get some miles under their belt. And many company's are running their drivers in regions based on where they live as solo's so they can get them home easier. Or they may have a need in a area to service customers and he got picked for it.
I live in the Seattle area and use to get run back to the east coast and run for a couple of weeks and then returned home.
Many company's test the wiliness of their new hires to put up with what I call driver abuse. Because drivers that don't say anything, or don't care, because they are just happy to have a job, makes operations job easier.
A company the size of Swift has little interest nor can they satisfy the needs of so many drivers, many of which they know got jobs there because many others would not hire them.
A load plnr plans loads based ion the needs of the company ,not the driver and could care less in most cases if any one particular driver is getting the short end of the stick. If he uses the chain of command which after the dm would be flt mngr, operations mngr, terminal mngr and so on and he is still frustrated with a lack of communication then he will just have to get some time under his belt and then move on to greener pastures without burning any bridges behind him.
Putting up with Swift for 6mo's will punch his ticket with many other better opportunity's and in the mean time he might have to just suck it up and deal with the bull and learn what he can from the experience.
Swift training school any one out here been there.
