This is my experience as well. The entire discussion regarding needing extra leverage to close the cams isn't necessary. You don't have to have the chains so tight with the cams alone that you would need that leverage. After snugging the chains with the cams I apply three bungees in a pie pattern and that's plenty snug.

It's actually better that the chains aren't locked tight, but rather are snugged-up with bungies that have some "give." When you hit pavement or something else that's solid with the tire chain, a very tight chain will dig into the tire causing damage; a chain that is snugged-up with a bungie has enough "give" to deal with the pavement/object and not dig into the tire.

The deal with the T-handle is it's easier for folks with small hands to get both hands into the action... in other words, easier to grip without causing pain. You get more torque from having a longer moment arm... from one of the L-shaped tools.

......And in other news, authorities are trying to determine the cause of death of a large otter found beside an idling semi today in an Oregon rest area............

True enough, but don't forget that the T-tools have 2 moment arms. So if the arms are half the length of the L-tool, it would take half the force on each arm to generate the same torque as the L-tool.

    "2 moment arms".....Hmmmm????

So if the "arms" "applied" are double......would that equate to "6 minutes"? OH my(!)....I get confused with those 4 letter words all the time.....arms--hand--arms--hand...wait a minute, I forgot which was first right or left!!!:biggrin_25517:

Would the torque applied be equal depending on right or left?:biggrin_25521:

I would seem that, once again, a thread involving the Otter has been derailed. Bravo, sir. Bravo!:yes2557:
