Here after todays little local work around Columbus. Was going under a 13'6" over pass very slow since it is bumpy and coming the other direction is Columbus PD. We go under the same time and I watch him U-turn and then come on the lights so I am thinking what the heck did I do. He comes up to my window and steps on the steps and says to me, "Driver, thank you for being safe under that overpass. Many calls we have received from trucks flying under it and bouncing and hitting the bottom. Driver, have a great day." Tell him thank you and wish him well and off he goes. That is a first. Now also had a discussion with one of our DM's on the account about line 5 and he has me read Swift's policy. Here it is
5. With regard to FMCSR 395.8, Regulatory Guidance, Question #26, this Policy
stipulates:
a. Driving from the Drivers Terminal or normal work-reporting location and
his/her home, may be considered Off-duty driving.
b. Driving to return to the Terminal or normal work-reporting location from the
Drivers home, may be considered Off-duty driving.
His argument is that it is a customer even tho we have a satellite office there. Mine is, it is my normal work reporting
Anyone else notice the other new change with the new upgrade, completing a VIR after pretrip in morning. I was reminded twice this morning to do one. This is along with MAC 32 at the end of the day.

Monroe, NC at a Wilco Hess.
I have about 105 miles to go for a 0500 delivery, so it'll be a very early start.
I'm running off my recap hours and I'll only have 4 left after my unload tomorrow.
The pplan I got doesn't pick up until the next morning at 0800, 60 miles away in SC. It'll get me back west a bit to Saint Joseph, MO on the 18th. It will be nice to get out from the east.
So I have nearly a day off tomorrow. Woo-hoo...
And I think I should have adjusted the delivery time on that next load for a couple hours later. It might be tight.
It's a drop, though, so I can probably just do a Mac-22 without a problem if I need more time. I wasn't about to pass up a 1100 mile load that gets me out of here.
And ever since that VIR button showed up a 'long' time ago, I have never been without it.
Are different updates sent to different trucks?HousTank Thanks this. -
I made a set of chain up "ramps" by stacking a one foot 2x6 on top of a two foot piece glued and screwed together with lag bolts that protrude about a half inch out of the bottom to act as cleats to keep them in place when I roll up on them. I've since decided it will be a cold day in hell before I chain up so I avoid driving in hell when its cold. I now use them to get under too talls but mostly to adjust the truck's sleeping angle in the side hill truck stops. If there's a yard ape around I'll ask them to pick up the trailer so I can adjust the landing gear.HousTank Thanks this.

The spending bill has passed with all riders and now goes to Obama for his signature. The provisions of consecutive 1am to 5am sleep periods and the 168 hour reset rule are suspended pending completion of further study. I wonder how long it will take to get the HOS configuration updated on the QC. If it isn't done in a timely fashion, I will go to paper logs until it is. I figure by midnight Monday is timely enough.

Have yet to see one myself.

They'll probably do another update in the middle of the afternoon when we all need the QC the most.dptrucker Thanks this.

Taking my break behind a Costco on the west side of Detroit.
Finished my load from NY to Bolingbrook and picked up my Costco in Morris and rolled to their store so I can combine my pretrip and delivery in the morning. Picking up another load 8 miles away as soon as I swap trailers. Going to Fairburn GA on the west side of Atlanta. Has a window to drop Tuesday morning till Wednesday afternoon. I'll have it there Tuesday after lunch. Will give me almost 3900 miles for the week. Going to try and get a short hop I can pick up and deliver by Wednesday after I get done in Fairburn. Would like to break 4000.
I had the VIR button for about 3 hours today..then it vanished.
I don't do 34 resets while I'm out but if I absolutely have to it will be much better under the old rules. I wish the Government would dump the ludicrous 30 min break while they're at it. Such a waste of time every day.
