folks, there isn't any doubt this has to be a new driver, and almost assured from one of the mega carrier.

first you have to understand that these guys are from day one trained not to think, to fuel only when told and where, they also are told not to go out of route , not to idle and sweat or freeze, and follow that e-log nav-i-go system , only ever 34 hours off at one time.

they basically have these folks brainwashed and afraid of losing there jobs. a trailer scratch turns into "hitting a fixed object" thereby an accident and after two three of these they are trapped and not able to be hired anywhere else.

so somebody created this monster, don't blame Frankenstein, blame dr. Frankenstein, the creator of the monster.

I used to live in Hurricane, UT. and when growing up I visited Zions alot.. That picture does not do that snake road justice, Taking a simi on there would be amusing let alone being new to the area and being zero dark 30. I think even if he would of cleared the tunnel under some feat we would prob still be reading a story about mr idiot that drove off the side of the curve.

Big Don and harlycharly55 Thank this.

From the looks at of rear of that trailer in the story it's not a mega, looks like a Mom and pop or a O/O no markings. Anyone can make a mistake you don't have to be new.. You just have to be to comfortable and not paying attention to anything around you, including signs and the unmistakeable "I was just following the GPS" #### a MAP!"

    Ask my GPS...

Don, that's the latest excuse for being a total dumb ###. There is no truck-specific GPS (set up properly) that would direct that idiot through that tunnel. Or the other maroon onto the pedestrian bridge.

Its an easy excuse for an idiot to pawn-off after doing something stupid.

ncmickey and Big Don Thank this.

You're assuming ALL truck drivers who have a GPS, have a "truck specific GPS set up correctly". I'm pretty sure you won't have to search long to find plenty who have "car GPS's", and plenty more who have truck GPS's that are not set up for truck operation (length, weight, height, etc). It's a sad commentary on our "profession", but it's true.

I remember some talk a while back about incorporating a minimum of 1 hour in CDL schools devoted to proper selection and use of GPS devices and other "electronic devices" commonly found in trucks. Not sure if it was merely rumor, but the idea is certainly has merit ... the story in this post is yet another case in point.

That aside, what happened to seeing and comprehending signage?

How did he even make it to the tunnel in the first place?! I went to Zion last summer, and you had to go thru an entrance station and pay the park entry fee well before you got any where close to that tunnel. How was this not stopped by park rangers right then and there?

I still have no GPS. Just a Rand McNaly that has a red dot at the scale houses. Low weight roads etc. course I had a kid tell me at the fuel island the other night that I wasn't a real trucker cause I wasn't pulling a 53 foot trailer.

I think the park rangers knock off around dark and it sort of operates on the "honor system" until the rangers come back in the next morning. I'm surprised the entrance would have allowed a 13-6 vehicle under it assuming it had some sort of cover at the booth.

... then the same kid proceeded to get in his 64 MPH truck with an automatic transmission, and a sign on the mirror that reads "G.O.A.L"
