Like some have said, falling asleep is a major huge red flag in this industry. Also no jury will buy your excuses for falling asleep.Reason we have hours of service and FMCSA is so strict on the laws is because over the yrs truck drivers have fallen asleep while driving and innocent ppl lost their lives..I would say that's one of the worst things to have on your record.I thank god nothing seriously happened after you fell asleep.Let this be a lesson learned. So what are you going to do once you graduate and no one hires you?

I like you and many of your posts but this is where im going to have to disagree because no one should enter this industry with that on his record. What ever the applicant wants to say is his business. But reguardless falling asleep while driving is very serious.Things like this carriers have a way of getting the truth out of you.

You seem like a nice enough guy but while you're applying for jobs you're going to find out how strict carriers are now compared to 5 yrs ago.Their insurance companies does the hireing now.Plus those things are very recent. It may be a good 3 yrs or longer before anyone will hire you so be prepared for that.Im just being honest is all.

Ok, here's the thing. You should be made aware of and maybe you do know this, but as a driver of a truck, you are not going to be working a 9 to 5 day. If, and I say if your first job is OTR, you'll be driving when you should be sleeping, you'll be eating when you should be driving, you'll be sleeping when you should be eating. Your circadian clock will be all screwed up your first few months. SO now can you see that falling asleep in your car, can have disastrous results driving a big rig? This is also why YOU SHOULD get a copy of the POLICE report. This will show what YOU SAID to the cop. IF NO mention of you falling asleep at the wheel, then I would say DO NOT MENTION how you crashed that night, other than to say, you swerved to avoid hitting a person in the street. If you say a kid, they may wonder what a kid was doing up that late, but ANY person of age, can be up all hours, walking the streets.

You can be wasting your money, again, all depending on the police report. All your DMV report will say is, crash, not at fault. BUT the trucking companies will want a police report, since your accident is still "too new"

In some instances, yeah. But they too must be of a determined time frame, which varies from one company to another.

You fell asleep and hit a parked vehicle? How the heck can they classify that as "not at fault"? I'd say you got lucky there hombre!
