So where does the initial $$ come from to get into the truck after training? If youre paid a % of the load, do you get paid anything for milage?

No millage. Only % I believe it's 65% of line haul. You also get 100% fuel surcharge. You have to factor what your operating costs per mile are then see if your gross for that load will be profitable or at least break even to get you too another load that will be.

It's 0 down and a walk away lease. Meaning you can quit you're not stuck in a long contact. Don't expect to be able to go from lease to company if you don't like it. I've only heard of that once then they left anyway.

100% total crock 'o crap. We have freight going up I84 all the time, and your home location has nothing to do with terminals. New drivers have no business jumping into a truck lease, and I recommend 2 years experience on the company side before even considering it. Who is your recruiter?

I told my recruiter I'v seen Prime trucks around here all the time... she said "they are probably all lease operators, not company drivers"

What if I attend the Prime training/apprenticeship(s) then when that is all done, and it comes time to choose co. driver or lease... then I choose Co. Driver and go up the chain of command from there....

Am I responsible for my fuel between my last load and my home for hometime, if the load/trip doesn't end near my home?

    "...they are probably..."
    "...what if I..."
    "What about mileage on percentage?"

You're hearing the same story from the experienced drivers here. You don't know enough about trucking to decide now - befor you even have a CDL - whether you should lease or not. Unless you just won the lottery and have a million or two in the bank, better listen.

I am assuredly listening to the experienced drivers who are on this post... What I am asking is, IF I HAVE to go as a L/O... how does it work, I am frustrated with what my recruiter is telling me, and as a soon to be new driver, I DONT want to jump in UNinformed... So yes. I am listening to them..... just dont understand some of it... that's why I ask the questions, and how I learn!

    Jbrodgers,

Don't buy that one bit, myself. You have absolutely no business in a lease at this point.

Have NEVER heard anything like this ever here.

This would be a complete & total recipe for failure.

I think you need to speak to another recruiter, ASAP.

You're not listening! If you are lease you are responsible for ALL OF YOUR EXPENSES!!!!!!!!! All not some not if this or that.... ALL! If you choose to go to California then have no load to go home for tomorrow. Your driving there with no load to offset your fuel cost.

Now if you are company if they don't have a load they will have you dead head(not paid for going home) to get you there. When I lived in Vegas almost every time I was going home I'd drop in socal or cedar city ut then drive home from there on the companies dime. But miles aren't paid going home.

Just spoke with a recruiter here and they were kind enough to explain why they would only offer lease as an option. It has to do with how profitable the driver will be either as a company driver or a lease driver and in what division.

Yes we have a lot of outbound frieght from that area but nothing inbound and that if why it's being recommended that you lease if you live in that area.
Talk with you recruiter again and ask her to explain to you why you can only come on as a lease.

    jbrodgers Thanks this.
