I've got a job offer with Swift, on a dedicated Target account, I'm heavily considering. I'm just wondering, do you ever get to fuel at TA/Petro with these guys, and if so how often would you guesstimate that to be (say out of every ten fuel stops)? Or is it all Pilot/FJ all the time, with an occasional Love's mixed in? Not that this is the most important criteria in my job search, rather far from it. I do have a preference for fueling and staying at TA/Petro when possible, and avoiding Pilot/FJ, if and when possible. So just wondering...
TA/Petro on Swift fuel solutions?

We no longer use Pilot or Flying J. Not since they screwed the company out of millions.
I guess they could not work out an arrangement after that happened.
Now it is mainly TA and Petro, with Love's thrown in about 30% of the time.Jeremy102077 Thanks this. -
I was getting a ton of Loves when they stopped using PJ, now I am getting TA/Petro more than anything, which I am very happy about.
Jeremy102077 and Lepton1 Thank this. -
That's music to my ears. But that brings another question to mind, while I'm at it. Seeing as how there is still a few more PFJ's out there than anything else. Say I'm on a hot load, can't afford to stop at the TA, with over an hour drive time still remaining, but there is a lone Pilot all by itself about an hour ahead, that will use up the remainder of my available drive hours for the day. Of course Swift doesn't fuel there, so I'm not gonna have a shower credit ready in the morning. But me being the creature of habit that I am, I've gotta start my day with a shower or I'll feel like crap all day until I do get one. So I decide to pay for it, out of pocket...can I then get reimbursed the $12 for that?

Should you be expected to get reimbursed?
Personally, I don't think so.
It would be the same if you are on any load where you have to stop at a mom-n-pop and don't have a shower credit.
The company is not responsible for my bathing habits - I am.
It is my own responsibility to plan my trips with things like showering and laundry time in mind.
If I don't plan well enough, I go an extra day without a shower or I simply pay for it. Simple enough.
It's not like $12 is going to break my piggy bank.
And if you've been trucking for 6 years, how could you really expect to get a free shower every morning?
For real???rexmanno Thanks this. -
With the proper trip planning and fuel monitoring, and knowing our fuel locations, you should never find yourself in the situation you describe. I always tell them I have less than actual by at least a 1/4 and when the weathers rough I don't let my tanks go below half. There's a few tactics you can use to always make sure you have plenty of fuel, DEF and shower credits.rexmanno Thanks this. -
I'm on a dedacted Walmart account and we use Loves like 90% of the time.

As for the other thing you mentioned. There's no question of how do you expect to get a free shower every morning, with me. That's all a matter of how one chooses to prioritize items. In the time I've driven, I've learned every trick I need to know, to make sure I do start each day with a fresh shower. There's times of course when it's not possible, such as when you wake up on a receiver's property, because there wouldn't have been enough time to get in a reset at the truck stop, and still get to the customer on time. Other times, when maybe the only place you can find a parking spot to shut down in is the rest area. But other than that, if you study up on the literature of truck stop loyalty programs, that award showers for XX amount of gallons of fuel, you know how to maximize your shower credits, so that you always have one available...like I said, if that is in fact something that does matter to you, and you choose to prioritize. But for somebody who says if they don't plan well enough, maybe they go an extra day without a shower; I could take an educated guess, that perhaps at least attempting to get a shower a day, and maintaining proper personal hygiene, is not as big of a priority to you, as it is to me. In other words, you and I are of a different train of thought when it comes to this topic. No need for either side to take offense, we just have differing perspectives on the topic.Last edited: Dec 31, 2014

But as for the matter of hot loads. Not just treating every load like it's a hot one. I drive out my hours every day, load permitting, unless I have an absurd amount of time on a load, and I really feel like stopping at a truck stop with a tv that night, to catch the game or whatever. But, when I'm on a load, that I literally cannot afford to drive anything but the maximum, per my trip plan, otherwise I'll wind up with too many miles to make up on the last day and leg of the trip. That's when, I have no choice but to plan to drive 11 hours, and approx 650 miles give or take, and whatever the nearest truck stop is at the end of those 650 miles, that'll be the one or one of a group at an intersection, that I will have to plan on stopping at. So if the only thing around for me to stop at is a TA/Petro or a Love's, that would work out for me with Swift. But the whole thing about a company that doesn't fuel at one of the big chains, at all whatsoever, is new to me. I am used to working for companies that practically never fuel at certain chains (usually TA/Petro), but at least often enough that I can stop and fuel one time, so I have that emergency credit to fall back on. Like I said though, the whole matter of taking Pilot/FJ completely out of the picture, and knowing that I will never have fuel points or a shower credit there, while working with Swift, is new to me. But on the same token, that's why I brought up the question of will they reimburse me if I have to get a shower there. Swift knows that some drivers will inevitably have to stop at those truck stops from time to time.Last edited: Dec 31, 2014
