So I want to do something for people considering becoming an Ic. This isnt all roses and sun shine i will admit i struggled mightily mostly because i didnt listen to the advice i was given and tried to take a i'll do it my way approach. Along with that i struggled with load planning during that time frame i decided to try things my way and not the way that others told me it best worked. You may have read in previous pages but the only thing that saved me was the fact that i had a nice amount of savings. When i started to right the ship i cut myself off from the savings and decided i should be surviving off the job and not my savings and to fix the issue immediately.
I fixed my issue by getting back to booking in pairs and not trying to plan my loads around home time but hometime around my loads. (Being home to much was initially a problem i had) Have the HOS rules changed made planning easier.) I seen positive results almost instantly. My fueling was bad too initially and i wasn't always driving economically. So here are numbers and ill of course clarify anything just ask.

Through 18 weeks as an IC i have grossed 47k and I've only netted 12k. I've pulled maybe 5k from savings over that entire time frame.
Now a week by week breakdown gross then net

    1 2133-1439
    2 3123-1285
3 4119-379 Schneider hit me with double payments
4 1923-113 Spent to much time home
    5 0 Vacation
    6 3866-221
    7 3027-1097
8 672- 0 Multi cancellations after to much home time
    9 3247-0

They change happened here i got my S%^@ together
10 3856-1862 Ended wk in shop
11 1613-0 In shop til mid week
    12 3493-1056
    13 963 - 0 Peterbilt held truck for 6 days doing a pm service
    14 2917-587
    15 3024-691
    16 3447-1047
    17 2963-1359
18 2764-350 Last week just sucked and couldn't deliver my final load before cutoff

you have to be REAL quick, that's what I'm learning. within just a couple minutes of a new lond posting that's pretty good.... it's gone!
forget checking maps, find loads out of the next area or indecision.. YOU MUST BE QUICK.

I got a loads going 240 miles paying $2.50 8k pounds. then 200 miles at $1.60 37k pounds then 210 miles at $2.07 5k pounds.. all PA to NY and back. (those numbers are roughly all miles)
booked those like bam bam bam! but today I waited in indecision and am screwed now.

It was biting me because i wanted to go home first and make the money later but the load board wasn't having that. I honestly think i was burned out form 6 years of humping food and soda up and down ramps and steps. Foodservice drained me.
If im in a area I frequent i dont even check the map. Like NJ, Central PA or 81 in va i book those with considering the next load because i know i will find something but if i get up to CT or Upstate NY i slow down and check maps and the next load.

I also think so many of us are camping on the board right now its a massive competition for the next great load
