Personally I am still a big fan of Windows 7 64-bit Pro. That's what I use and that is what I would still use if I built a new system today.

I do have a tablet with Windows 8 and it is nice there because of the touchscreen.

But I have blue-screened and crashed Windows 7 like literally 300 times doing extreme overclocking and it has never corrupted. For that, MS gets kudos because I absolutely killed every other version of Windows (included my beloved Windows XP) in the past by making computers try to do stuff they weren't supposed to do.

True story indeed. Nice to dual boot with Linux, but sometimes there is a driver or program capability issue that I can't get around. I hate spending excessive time scouring the interwebs for some obscure fix or tweak to make something run on Linux when I should be fragging. Lol. Both have their pros and cons...

I would like the option of 4k for if I get a 4k monitor, although I hear two 970's can do it but im not sure how far that pushes them to the limit. I'll look into ram. This is a build I got from a friend and did some modifications, like the vid cards and other stuff. The tower, motherboard, and RAM are the ones I havent touched yet. Not sure on motherboard yet as if like something that will allow dual vid cards at 16x bandwidth each. Some good ones but with all things computers all choices sacrifice cool features...why can't they make motherboard that does it all? Lol

OK, things to consider regarding a desktop gaming PC for use in a truck, or anywhere else for that matter. Liquid cooling is not nearly as risky as it once was, although it's still not 100% reliable in a harsh environment. Modern CLC (closed loop coolers) have no serviceable parts and are prefilled by the manufacturer. Socket 1150 is still the hot ticket right now even though 2011 v3 is now out for ONE reason. 2011 v3 takes DDR4 RAM, which is new to the marketplace and considerably more expensive.

I would not rule out a gaming laptop. Regardless of what some people have stated in this thread, it doesn't take $4,000 to get a very good gaming laptop. Look here, for example, and play around with a few configurations. http://www.sagernotebook.com/17-Laptops/ I'm sure you'll find several that will play Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous, or any number of other games at 1080p at ultra settings while still costing WAY UNDER $2K.

When I'm at home, I game on a relatively ancient Gateway FX 6801-h that now has a 1st generation Core I7-960, 16 gig DDR3-1600, a 250 gig Samsung EVO SSD, 3TB Seagate Barracuda HDD, and an EVGA GTX 680 SC with 3 gig of RAM. It plays anything I can throw at it just fine at high to ultra settings on a 2560x1440 monitor, so I have no problem whatsoever believing that a new gaming laptop with a mobile Haswell processor and a GTX 980M wouldn't.

I've just picked up a lenovo laptop for gaming, have yet to test it and I plan to run Star Citizen, and Space Engineers a little later today. Space Engineers will be a good test for the laptop since my Alienware Laptop can barely run it without lagging a storm, not unless I build a really small ship and stay away from the astroids.

What a timely thread. I'm looking to upgrade my laptop to get something that can easily handle Crysis 3, Thief (2014), and Farcry 4.

The replacement would have to have min. Nvidia GTX 860M (most laptops I've seen with this are running an i7 already), and a backlit keyboard (my Chronos spoiled me).

ubuntu IS linux ;) debian based, I havent used it in probably 5 years though.
You can get a free copy of win7....just saying... ;)

I just think its crazy to spend this kind of money on a gaming computer for a truck, heck I dont even have the downtime to really be playing games but if its your thing then cool. I stopped gaming once I started driving. I used to laugh at the drivers in the terminals who carried their big 50inch tv's and playstations, desktops etc into the terminals and played all night.

I ran RedHat for a while. Nice to click on something and before you take your finger off the mouse button it's up and running.

Lol yer right. I was thinking of something else [emoji14].

As far as gaming goes, no I dont have time to do it as I once did. But I still have time for it in moderation and its something I can do when at the house...after the family stops acting like Ive been for three years straight (over-exaggeration).
