The test on the pretrip inspection is done when you are going from your permit to a full CDL. You learn the pretrip during your PSD phase.

No it's not but prime will make you pass it first before you can go out with a PSD instructor now.

Otherwise the very first test you'll take on test day for your cdl is pre-trip. If you don't pass that then you won't take the other 2 phases of the test. You have to pass each section to move on to the next.

My student passed today! Yay! All he had to do was a road test this morning. When him and the examiner came back early with a state trooper following behind him, I thought he had failed. I was so relived when he gave me the thumbs up. Lol

Sounds like folks were having trouble with pre-trip... even after doing it for 4 weeks with a psd instructor (or they should have been), then not passing the CDL prior to TnT

I hope my PSD instructor doesnt mind LOTS of questions... and lets me pre-trip more than once a day.

Not a matter of "letting" you. It is your reponsibility & an essential & required part of your day. You just do it. You MUST do it deligently. Your life, and others, depend on it.

When "interviewing" PSD/TnT trainers, in your opinions, what questions should be asked by you the student? And questions are typical to expect from the trainer?

    Anything.

Biggest thing would be getting clear understanding of what you both expect from each other before you even go out.

And, if you ARE going to do that lease bit right out the gate (highly discourage), hopefully you will luck out and get a successful O/O or successful L/O with the right motives. You're gonna need all the help you can possibly get, to not become a typical statistic. I know you've been deligent on research, and realize the odds are overwhelmingly against you.

Do you sleep walk or throw things in your sleep? (The first step off the bunk is a doozy) Do you wet the bed (just kidding)? Ask about food on the road, how and where does your trainer eat. Does the truck stop every day for drivers to shower? What any laundry? How much space do you have on the truck for my stuff? Do you smoke? What kind of music do you like and listen to you? Just start there and you'll come up with more questions from those.
