i know people that ad a gallon of gas but i dont think engine manufacturers like that idea so i just stick with power service in my n14 which puts a lot of hot fuel back to the tanks .
when i had my volvo i really had to stay on top of it tho cause volvo engines return very little fuel to the tanks .

Also make sure your fuel filters get changed regularly. My company doesn't do it often enough. The recent cold snap we had in the northeast caused 3 trucks to have problems. These 3 trucks were about a week out from getting there filters changed. Mechanic said if the filters were changed more often (all the other trucks on my act had recent service done) it probably wouldn't of happend.

Hi skateboardman, don't forget moth balls in the air cleaner and pinching the fuel return line on a BC Cummins. :biggrin_2559:

Hi b, actually, I heard that from an old-timer when I 1st started. I think, many years ago, moth balls were basically ether pellets, and they would open the air cleaner, and dump a few in to get them over the hill. Don't try this at home. I have a mechanic friend that said he's heard of old timers running propane into the air cleaner, resulting in that nice blue flame out the stack, again, no real proof, but if an old-timer said it, it must be true, right? The pinching the return line IS true, as I worked for a company many years ago that had all Cummins motors, and part of the service was to make sure the old-timers didn't pinch the return fuel line. ( I think that increased the rail pressure, but could melt the motor down)

Me neither, moth balls is new to me. Pinched fuel line I heard looooooong ago.
I knew he was talking about gasoline. Many years ago I saw guys put about a gallon to the tank when they fueled, mostly in the old 318's.I have seen automatic transmission fluid used also. I never did,and I would certainly not do it now. Seems like these new engines are just looking for a reason to give you trouble.Stick with a fuel additive designed to do the job.

If you motor is under warranty and you pull in with engine problems and they find gas in your fuel? Guess what that repair bill is all yours. Makes no sense to add gas to fuel. Its very hard on injectors in new motors, lowers the gravity of fuel which results in poor fuel economy. The only correct way is quit trying to be a cheap ### and buy the additive. Call your local mechanic and ask him what a complete rebuild will cost. Then ask yourself if you have that kind of money to risk on the advice of an old timer who may or may not have given you the correct ratio of gas to fuel. You need to follow the recommendations of the manufacture on what to do. Its the only way to protect your investment. No way in hell are you going win with what they say, and what some old timer told you, on who is right and who owes.
