I went to their school in Baton Rouge LA back in 1991. Was an 8 week program for 3500 bucks back then. 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
Back then you could get student loans and grants. To bad that type funding is no longer allowed, it would save the students money and the company sponsored schools would be out of business.

In georgia, you can get state funding. But you've got to be unemployed... Made a great deal of sense to me. Clear as mud.

I have learned more on backing while sitting at tuckstops and watching others back than I learned at school....you can do this...man, women, white, black, ....who cares...I have met truckers from every background imaginable...someone is always going to poke andtry and make fun, it has been n my experience that the real proffessionals help out, give advice, and exercise patienc while you take the time you need...the others, loud, obnoxious, and very impatient....oh well, I guess Jesus loves them, too...follow the advice you have received on here and accomplish this task...

I think you said you're in the Atlanta area right? You could always try the school I went to, Atlanta truck driving school. It's admittedly a small hole in the wall with an even smaller lot to learn on, but I walked out of there feeling that I knew the basics quite well. The only thing they don't teach is the 45° back maneuver.

1) Finish the school. You already have money invested in it. No sense in jumping ship when there's only a few issues you need to work with. Jumping ship will be a decision you'll later regret.
What you do after school depends on what you want out of trucking.
2) If you want a 'home every day' job, you first need to get your endorcements. Get your hazmat, doubles and triples, and tankers.
3) Many line haul companies will hire and train student drivers. Look into companies such as YRC, FedEx Freight (stay away from FedEx Ground), SAIA, UPS, CT, etc.
This will be comforting for you to know, but you're not the only black woman in the industry. There are PLENTY of them around.shellyshell20 Thanks this. -
Why did you quit your job before getting your cdl AND another job lined up?? If you dont mind me asking...
