    Hello all!
Curious - how many of you old timers started out truck driving at the age of 50? (or 50+).

I'm 44. And looking for a career change. I've been tied to an office desk environment for 22 years. I'm tired of it. So I'm interested to hear other stories.

Of course I don't know of anyone that insane to "start" trucking. All my "sane" friends are like me and want to RETIRE BEFORE we die. Trucking can be stressful, you should be of sound mind and body. ANY little blip in your medical history will explode once you are under the various stages of stress, from the road, the 4 wheelers, the company, the costumer, etc.etc. My best thoughts (not advice, as you won't listen and do things your way), is to reconsider such a move, You haven't too many years left for retirement, and you'd better be able to enjoy that more so than say working under the gun to meet a deadline. What I HAVE KNOWN though, is that many of my past friends, and others in this industry many times, when they retire from driving? They die not much later.

Do as you wish, I know you will, but hey, it's your life, your future.

I did. I got a CDL when I was 62, after retiring from federal service. I've been checking off this 'bucket list' item ever since.

Dozens of people that post on here started a new trucking career after the age of 50. It's not unusual at all. There's no age discrimination in trucking.
