I've only ever worked a data entry job before I started trucking and by lunch time I was always bored ,I'm afraid he same is gonna happen .

I don't get tired but so much I begin to get bored from doing same task . My school teacher said he was the same way at his office job before he went OTR.

Anyone else have similar fears or experiences ?

You take your bed with you, so that's a plus.

It takes a few months to build the ability to do long hours behind the wheel. If you smoke I recommend you quit. I am an on again off again smoker. I do better especially at night not smoking. I'm on a 3 week period not smoking. I would recommend stopping every 2-3 hours to walk a little (5 minutes). Avoid candy and soda for the first 90% of your driving period. Small bag of nuts early keeps me focused as does not over eating.

As for being bored, call people you can talk with for a few hours. Get audio books. Find things to wonder about with the people around your rig.

Get yourself a good Bluetooth headset and keep family and friends on speed dial. You'll make new friends in truck school and orientation, get their numbers and stay in touch. Having someone who understands what you're dealing with will make life much easier. Enjoy your travels. Don't lose focus of the road and driving, but catch glimpses of the terrain and area. It always amazes me how beautiful this country really is. Also, don't ever be afraid to speak up to your company if you don't feel something is right. Your training is everything, get everything you can from everyone who will give it. Make your trainer let you back. Make him (or her) let you drive. Get a sirius xm radio too. That helps a ton. Most of all... enjoy the ride.

You may have to eat your lunch as you drive, not in a cafeteria, that should keep you from getting bored as you juggle that sandwich as you try to shift or make a maneuver from hitting a car.

Every day, if at the very least 10 cars cut you off, get in front of you and slow you down, or tailgate you or run along your side in your blind spot, then yeah, you will get bored.

    NO

Whether it be bright an sunny, cloudy, rainy or snowy or icy, I have to be ALERT every second that I am behind the wheel. At night time, I must be ever more ALERT for animals crossing the highway, cars parked along side the shoulder sticking into the travel lane, people walking on the highway, you name it. If YOU GET BORED EASILY? Then you know what, stay the heck out of trucking, as YOU WILL BE INVOLVED in an event so life changing, you'll regret the day you were born, because trust me, the lawyers will make sure you will wish to regret the day you were born. You will become so complacent in short time if you get bored so easily, and THAT leads to disaster, as you WILL NOT be able to handle the sudden disaster coming at you at break-neck speeds, of even a mere 65 mph.

Stay out of trucking, seriously, this IS NOT for you.

I think you're reading to much into this G.

I know how to be a safe driver and stay alert , I'm just afraid I'll have a "I don't want to do this anymore " attitude after a few hours .

Then DO NOT waste your time, a school's time, the DMV's time, and most certainly a company's time.

Do you have a type of medical disorder like attention deficit? Or Bi-polar? Stay out of trucking, you're I don't want to do this anymore attitude, is not right for this industry. You will be laxing in your responsibilities, the customer's freight, time schedules, etc.

    Good luck in another occupation.

If you get bored repeating the same task then trucking probably isn't for you. You won't know for sure until you try it. Give it your best shot and if you find you don't like it then leave. No harm no foul!
