I believe that torque was set to appease the transmission manufacturer.....
We don't have anything (stock) that will touch the Scania 720hp, 3500Nm torque and a retarder .
Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

i am thinking similar as king-q
it is good to spread informations and experiences , forums are for this
i dont find anything bad to talk about different things, from different places
i have also learn some things from people from other side of ocean, as well as from our australian members, i have talked a lot with king q as well here in different topics
since european transport industry is oriented on technology, and most truck manufacturers are connected with car manufacturers and some things that have been used only in luxury cars are now almost normal in trucks
for example i dont remember when i last time saw mercedes truck without promixity sensor used in ACC and for emergency braking,
one friend got it,and just few months after he bought it ,there was strong fog , and he was going 80 , and car cut his way , he could not see car but system stops truck.
but it was still too late, he crash bumper headlight and sensor itself, and nobody was hurt, so it is nothing comparing to what could happens , i think 4year after he still have broken bumper but first thing after crash is he bought new sensor, and he says he would never drive a truck without it
you might find something useful , here trucks are developed much further than yours , things you are considering to introduce we already have for a long time
every single detail in our trucks is on higher step , here we dont like half finished things ,
as nothing in life is black and white, all this bring bad side, today trucks become too easy to drive, even children could drive them
this eliminate need for good drivers , but globalisation would happens even without it and we cant stop it , and even without today trucks it would happened , maybe would be even more accidents on roads, but who knows
transport like it used to be dont longer exist in europe, every larger company move to east to reduce costs, people from west countries become spoiled and nobody else want to drive truck , now several west european countries are trying to stop this
now belgium and france want driver to sleep in hotel during week , to prevent eastern companies to take them jobs, ( those drivers live sometimes even 4months in trucks)
germany get new law, that require company to pay driver 8.5/h when it is in germany
in germany since they stop military service, number of new drivers is falling sharply, before young guys get their truck licence in army, now somebody told me driver in germany must spend more than 7000 on all permits ( including c+e+cod95+digital tacho card, medical examination,....)
unfortunately guys like our member fangio ( paccar105) , dont exist anymore, it is all about being cheap and big amounts
my father is one of them, he does not want to give up although he dont earn anything in last 6years, but his pride dont allow him to be somebodys employer or to let somebody talk that he was forced to sold , his brother is 73year old and still drives, younger brother 66 still drives
we had good thing during communism, nobody was allowed to have more than one truck , it was good thing , price were secured,as nobody was interested to buy more trucks and reduce prices , there was no police no weight inspections , money was good they were not interested to work if earn was less than 1000 DEM per day , back than nobody was interested to find back load or something else
today is problem if you employ one of old drivers from that times, they are used to drink and stop in bars, and they are always late,
they are used to drive 400km and back in 3daysCat sdp and daf105paccar Thank this. -
as for r730 sales, this is already overpowered, and there is no need for it for normal work , only scandinavia they have 60 and even 76t with some tests even 90ton), australia, or heavy haulage
scania sold 2700 of r730 from april 2010 until today -
Probably don't need it .... But I want it anyway. LOL

Just for a little information, a stock C15 at similar HP rating would be north of 2500 ft-lbs, this comes from an industrial spec sheet, so the possibility was there if the market was ever pushed, cummins has industrial ISX engines running at 755hp, not sure about the torque on them. -
730 is too different from old v8 , xpi is complicated and expensive to work on, oil intervals are much shorter than on 620 , it require synthetic oil,730 use 10L more oil,
it have vgt,i dont know for 730 but inline scania with vgt have predicted turbo change on 600k and it cost almost 4000
620 is better choice unfortunately ecology mess things and they dont make it anymore for europe
730 with its stronger gearbox( which is also available from any engine of 360+) weights 104kg more -
SC, They'll never meet the emissions regs with those engines ....and you need a tranny and rears to go with them.
But the euros got all that covered........ -
industrial engines mostly work at constant load , engines dont like variable loads , like turbos dont like temperature changes
scania v8 got up to 770hp as industrial engine and up to 1000hp in marine applications
but i agree with bold part, engineers make what market wants -
There are C15 gen set engines up to 855hp, but you are correct these are not tier 4 engines, the tier 4 ratings are not as powerful, they have a twin turbo set that is larger than what comes on the acert truck engines that would support the 750 very reliably.
As the difference in the 2050 and 2250 eaton is a simple as a different input shaft I would not be afraid to put a 2600ft-lbs engine in front of a 2050 transmission, and I would say again if the market was there, there would be a transmissions built to match.Cat sdp Thanks this. -
Brought some life to the old garage..... Kinda nice. Tks
