You guys that are on e-logs, is there line 5 on there, off-duty driving?

I made decent money pulling a reefer. That used to be the case with tanks. It isn't anymore. Combine that with doing a ridiculous amount of waiting to load and unload (much more than I ever did with a reefer) and not getting a dime for it, too much sitting, and the fact that e-logs only pour salt on both of those two wounds, in my opinion it's time to move on. Yes, it's an easy job, but who cares? The money sucks.
Dinomite Thanks this. -
a reefer has just as much right to park there as you or I do. and with limited parking (less parking spots, more trucks on gthe road, weirdly) that only makes me more right
oh, and don't forget you'll have to reteach yourself to drive a 53' trailer, then all the BS of sliding axles, (which you're not paid for)
and you're going to leave tank for this?
there are all sorts of tank Jobs, go hunt down Chinatown and ask him about them. Heck, Quality Carriers almost hired me once, but since I don't have a TWIC they weren't interested.JRTBud87 Thanks this. -

and I NEVER got detention hauling reefer -
I have pulled my share of reefer trailers. Temp control hauling should pay the drivers a premium for all the extra hassle Involved. Unfortunately, it don't.
I hear ya on all the waiting/delays with hauling food grade tank. I struggle with that as well. The only way to overcome the crappy pay is to run ourselves ragged.
I have come to the conclusion that all trucking companies stink. They are all out for their own interests and we drivers don't amount to a ball of goat crap to them. -
what if the crap pay is just a way to encourage us to run ourselves ragged? It encourages us to run because we make more money plus, of course, they make more money, the harder we run the more money they make
and DUH! its ALWAYS been like that, it ALWAYS will be. EVERY business is out to make money, if you don't make money you won't last long. People invest their life savings into starting a business and they'll squese every penny out of it.
picture your household as a business. the trucking company isn't much different from your household (minus the dozens of more zeros, taxes, overhead, etc) if you see a way to save a penny you do it. why do you think TV ratings for EVERY TV show have gone down in the past few years. people are cutting TV as an expense to make more money for their household.
look how many businesses shut down when Minimum wage goes up.
Trucking is like manufacturing, the more you manufacture the more money the company makes. The more you truck the more the company makes. The biggest difference is: we are only allowed to truck so much because there are laws. there are no laws about manufacturing. I COULD go on a rant about how good HOS laws are, but I don't want to. The other difference is you can outsource manufacturing jobs, it would cost so much more to outsource trucking than its worth on a grand scale.
I've explained why pay is so little on previous threads -
go hunt down Chinatown and ask him about them Just save the time and use GOOGLE SEARCH for job / location same as he does
