I run OTR in a 1.5 million mile pre-egr 12.7 truck -- its been down less in the last 60,000 miles than the 4 newish trucks I drove as a company driver (ISX, DD15, Acert, & Maxxforce). That said, the maintenance log shows some occassional expensive work: an inframe at ~750k, hood/radiator/charge cooler at 900k (complimemts of SWIFT), a differential at 1.2, turbo at 1.3, & a fifth wheel at 1.4. Original rockwell transmission is just barely starting to whine in 9th, & it could need an inframe in the next year or three, but I trust it to go anywhere...

Check engine and transmission and cab mounts too. I've seen trucks with the rubber completely gone.

Thanks Double Yellow I hoped you would chime in as I has seen in your thread you wrote that your new old truck you bought had some very detailed maintenance logs.
any mention of numerous smaller things being replaced in the logs? -

Man, I can't believe some of these were not mentioned.
King Pins, Shocks, Air Bags, Ujoints, Carrier bearings, AC does it work? Wheel Seals, Any suspension bushings. Leaks around the windshield. Check airlines and wiring for any chaffing.
I found a truck the other day that I would have loved to purchase but when I saw photos of wires hanging from under the dash for something that the owner had wired in, I said NO WAY! When someone starts to tap into wiring it makes me nervous, especially on these trucks. -

If the truck has been maintained, then nothing needs repaired just because of a million miles.
grease, fluid changes, keeping an eye on coolant SCA can make a million mile truck need far fewer repairs than a 500,000 mile truck with poor maintance.Ruthless and tommymonza Thank this. -
The rear wheel bearings should be changed before you have a failure and need to call the axle surgeontommymonza Thanks this.
