I know with SEFL at least...some P&D drivers get additional hours working on the dock each day (i.e. A friend comes in two hours before his P&D shift to work the dock). So...tack on two additional hours per day x five days per week x $21.75 (base P&D hourly salary)...and you've got an additional ~$11,000/year (assuming that holds up over the course of the year...that would put you towards $60k/year gross).
Go on Paycheckcity.com and plug in salaries, hours, state/federal taxes, etc. That website will give you a good ballpark, assuming you put in reasonable numbers for your projection.
One thing to keep in mind is that things can slow down a bit during the winter months. As a P&D driver, you might not always have enough pickups or delivers to get you a full 10-12 hour shift.darthanubis, herring22, already gone and 1 other person Thank this. -
And I would venture to assume most linehaul guys are pulling in between 65-80k between the different LTL companies. Probably a bigger disparity amongst linehaul since runs and mileage will vary. Seems like at our terminal the average schedule run is about 500-525. We have some in the mid-upper 400s, and our longest runs are around 640. Of course wild or extraboard will be all over the place with mileage. Most L/H drivers at our terminal are averaging 80k. We've got some guys w/ the longer runs that are around 100k, but that's not the average. As a rookie L/H driver at bottom pay rate, I should see around 70k my first year with OD.
darthanubis and bubbagumpshrimp Thank this. -
Grossed 68k doing P/D for 2014 @ ABF. Didn't kill myself or volunteer for OT. If i had to pay $200-$600 for insurance/ benefits each month, I'd find another employer. We have a lot senior guys taking off doing whatever, Us guys lower on the pole benefited greatly for 2014.
darthanubis and already gone Thank this. -
darthanubis and Shaggy Thank this.

Vacation at ABF is 1 week after TWO years and 2 weeks after EIGHT years. Many new drivers are shocked to find this out after starting.
darthanubis Thanks this. -
Clarify, OD is a good company. ABF has current better Benefits/ Pension/ OT. crap can change in the near future and never anything is better.
LTL companies is all the same, just pick whatever works at the time better for a individual persondarthanubis, Marksteven and 2BucTruck Thank this. -
I hear you brother! I feel very fortunate to be a linehaul driver with an LTL company. Funny thing is that ABF is right next door to us. If anything ever happened at OD (not sure what that even means), you can bet I'd be knocking on ABF's door, or Estes. I never had to go OTR, hope I never do. I'm in a great location for LTL, and again, know how fortunate my family is.
Most of the better LTL companies are pretty much comparable in their compensation for drivers. That was what I found out after some research. It then comes down to what flavor you like. Some might have a better .cpm or hourly rate, but perhaps their vacation time is lacking. Sometimes it's 6 of one, 1/2 dozen another.Shaggy and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Research is the name of the game and I have Zero Pity for anyone that doesn't put any effort and complains how they got screwed.
