i asked this is another thread, but this looks like it might be a better place to ask it....
i am asking this here instead of starting a new thread since i put TWIC card in the search and it brought this thread up....

if you already have HAZMAT does that speed up the TWIC card process ??

TWIC is federal right ? so if hubby gets it here in NM, and we move to LA does he have to do anything diff with it ?

also say an ad for a job saying something about an OSHA card ? i havent heard of that...is this something he will need too ?? or unable to say without knowing more specifics ??

we are most likely gonna move to LA and he will be helping do an expansion on a oil refinery. any info would be greatly appreciated since we dont know a thing about TWIC...

I cant say if you have one or the other if that will speed it up or not, I got both of them at the same time. I do believe if you have one (HAZMAT?) the TWIC is a little less dollars.

I also believe you are right it would be good in another state when you move but would be best to call TSA and ask. That is one thing I did not ask as I will be moving from CT to NC.

Never hear of a OSHA card. Is it in a job posting you need one? If so call them to see what it is. Made be it is a card that you went thru their safety course?
Let us know what a OSHA card is when you find out.

When you get a TWIC, you can get in anywhere it's required, no matter what state.

No, having a HazMat does not "speed up' the TWIC process.

What about having TWIC before applying for HazMat?
    Speed Up/Cheaper?

Also, when you renew your TWIC card, do they send you a new card every X years?

    Renewal TWICs

    • What is the renewal process?
      • The renewal process consists of the same steps as the original enrollment process (in-person enrollment and card activation). These steps are required since a security threat assessment is required on all applicants, confirming they still meet eligibility requirements.

    • How much does a renewal cost?
      • The fee for a renewal TWIC (valid for 5 years) is the same amount as the initial enrollment fee, which is currently $129.75. On February 1, 2015 the TWIC fee will be reduced to $128.00. This is a $1.75 reduction due to lowered FBI fingerprint processing charges.

    • When should I renew for a TWIC?
      • We recognize that TWIC applicants require flexibility due to the nature of maritime jobs. As a result, individuals may renew their TWIC at any time in advance of the expiration of their card at any enrollment center.

    • What should I take into account when applying for a renewal?
      • Individuals should take into account the expiration date of their previous TWIC and understand that the expiration date associated with their ‘renewal’ TWIC is tied to the security threat assessment performed for that (renewal) application. For example, an individual currently has a TWIC with an expiration date of October 20, 2012 and applies for a full-fee renewal TWIC on June 1, 2012, getting approved on June 20, 2012. The new TWIC will have an expiration date of June 20, 2017.

I don't think that having an HME already would speed up the process, but it does lower the cost about $30.00 if the HME is valid.
I did the in-person enrollment, fingerprints, picture and paperwork and paid the fee on the 20th and got a message this morning from them saying the card was mailed out already. So 8 days it took when they told me it could take around 30 days. It's federal so yeah it's valid anywhere.

OSHA card I never heard of, cant help ya there.

It would've only been an additional credential if you plan on getting your captains license... (driving big boats; fishing boats, tug boats..etc) but if you never plan on it don't stress on it.

There are different levels of osha certification .. you'll need to know which if not all

ask whomever told you a osha card is required

there are classes to gain certification and classes to train others

Are we allowed to laminate the secondary TWIC card that has our password on it (and picture of fingers)?

I don't see why not as the card is just for you. Once you know the PIN and what fingers to use I think you could cut it up and toss it.
The only one you need to show is the one with your picture/bar code/ chip on it.
