What I have been told directly from DOT when forced to leave private property and out of hours. Drive on duty driving to the Nearest Safe and Legal parking and note on logs required to leave private property. Restart your 10 hr break once parked. When ordered off private property it does not matter if you are loaded or empty. You must move.

Yes. Following the DOT directive doesn't matter whether you are on paper or elogs. And yes let your company know as soon as possible that you were required to leave private property when out of hours and thus required to restart your 10 hr break. Every company has dealt with this many times. Off duty driving has very specific regulations and are not legal in this situation. Take some time and research the specific rules to legally use off duty driving. You can find it useful particularly for restocking your truck during a 34 hr break.

I had no idea one was allowed to line 5 during a 34, I thought it was 1 and/or 2 only

maybe i'm stupid about Line 5 because I've never worked for a company that allowed me to line 5

and every company I've ever worked for when I asked "what if they don't let me park" they say "don't let that happen, if you trip plan better it wont happen" so I just gave up asking them since they weren't going to give me an answer

here is one bad thing I will say about IRT, and this is my own personal experience, from what I hear this doesn't happen to a lot of people. mainly because I've spoke with only 2 or 3 other people in this company, and I've gotten 2 or 3 different answers (and one guy I don't talk to because I get tired of him talking about how bad this company is but yet is still here)

I am getting really tired of paying for these tolls out of pocket, they get really really costly. I've spoke with 4 or 5 different people within the company and I've gotten 4 or 5 different answers about it. I have no idea if I'm reimbursed for my tolls i'm not home often enough to read my pay stubs to see if I got reimbursed. by the time I do get home I don't care. I get billed for the advances, which makes sense, but I don't see reimbursements.

Off duty driving (line 5) must originate and terminate at the same location. Hence running a personal errand such as a meal or shopping for personal supplies. Cannot be used to benefit your employer. Perfectly legal during a 10 or 34. The proper term is Personal Conveyance.

what if I leave the terminal, go to Walmart (and maybe one or 2 other places) and park at the hotel? is that legal?

I assume it is because I started and ended in the same town

Probably. I'm no expert which is why we should research it thoroughly. The companies I've worked for have issued a kingpin lock and only allow PC bobtail and require me to return to the exact place of origin. Company policies can always be more stringent than the dot regulations.

I never went to Walton NY. Been to Lowville NY and Oneida. Usually dropped down to Laurel MD afterwards. Guess that snow storm cleared up up there?
