I don't have the little fat book (FMCSA Regs.) in front of me now, but we looked it up after this discussion came up at our yard one day. And it clearly states that a firearm is prohibited in a commercial vehicle. It is short and to the point, but it does say it. I always wondered what the punishment would be. Out of service, fine, jail, or all of them? I wish we could carry somedays, but others days I'm glad we can't. I might be the first one in trouble the way some of these idiots drive around us!![]()
Do you carry?

I have looked and found no mention about firearms in CMVs. I'm beginning to wonder if it's just heresay. -
OK, thanks. I'm a starving flatbedder too.

When I was on the road I never had to carry anything. I was always moving. Within regulation of course.
I do know of some that had something with them though, Like a baton of some sort.

Have you read this thread, by any chance? -

I will post it. Give me alittle time, though. I find it hard to believe that no one can find it in the regs book. We just looked it up last year, so I know it's there. But i will leave it at that since I don't have the location to post as of now. But I should have it on here by Tuesday.

Your companies policy manual may have told you that. You company manual may even tell you it is in the FMCSA book trying to make sure you they scare you into obeying their policy on firearms. It is not in the FMCSA book.
Like Lurchgs asked you. Did you read what others have posted in this thread? You aren't the first who has tried to tell us this.
If there was a law against firearms in a CMV I would be in jail by now. I am required in NC to tell an officer I have a concealed handgun with me during any traffic stop and that I have a CCW permit. Some states don't require telling the officer such as GA but my permit is valid in GA. Again I own my truck and run under my own authority, just like being in my own car. -
This thread has been going since 6/25/07 and not one shred of evidence that its federally illegal. So, I guess I'll be of the opinion that it's federally legal and that one would have to take state regs into hand. I have frequented a website since about 2000 for info about concealed carry, that some of you might like to know about. I dont know if this is against forum policy or not, but i guess if it is they'll just take out the link, not sure. It's in Michigan but it also has links to other states laws. It's a great site IMO. It's called Michigan Coalition For Responsible Gunowners.

If this against foum policy, I'm sorry. I'm not trying promote them, I'm just trying promote learning. I'm not even a member. -
Whether it is illegal or not is not really an issue. Most companies PROHIBIT firearms in their vehicles whether owned or leased. There are also places you deliver or pickup with the same policies.
