This is a question to all the 4-wheelers out there on the road.

When us truckers are in the granny lane and you 4-wheelers come up from behind in the fast lane, why do you stay by the back corner of our trailer instead of passing?

When you do that all you do is piss off truckers because if we need to get over into the fast lane for some reason we cant without taking your front bumper off. If your gonna get in the fast lane then dont hang back there by the rear of our trailer. You need to go ahead and pass.

Not only do you prevent us from being able to get over if we need to but you also 9 out of 10 times will not see our turn signal when we let you know we need to get over.

So if any 4-wheelers read this then I would like an explanation for this idiocy.

If you come up with an explanation of the moronic behavior of the drivers out there, share it with us.

Because Big truck truck drivers are professional drivers and therefore should be capable of controlling their Big trucks in ANY situation -- including dangerous situations created by the folks who will sue a Big truck truck driver and their company for Big Bucks if they get what they set themselves up for.

SOMEtimes, being "moronic" can make ya rich. :biggrin_25525:

If those dad-gummed Big trucks would get the hail off the roads, maybe drivin' 4-wheelers would be safer. :biggrin_25523:

Unfortunately, Harley, just as big trucks sometimes get caught in the left lane, so do four-wheelers. I know it's happened to me, which is why I tend to stay in the right lanes regardless of how traffic is moving. You move into the left lane to pass, and suddenly traffic in the right lane begins to pick up speed again and you're stuck.

So what would a trucker prefer? Would you prefer that I accelerate, ride the ### of the vehicle in front of me, and then cut into the little bit of space between you and the car you are following... or would you prefer that I drop back and have people attempting to pass me on the right only to reclaim my former position at your rear bumper? In that situation, those really are my only two choices. I can't pass until the vehicle in front of me does, and I can't drop back and return to the right lane because there's no room there either.

Sometimes, just as you do, we get stuck, too. :yes2557:

You explained that one in your own statement.

I think he's refering to the times when there are few in the hammer and most are in the right 2 or just the granny. I get that all the time here.

In that situation I would prefer them to be no where near me anymore.

Now what I really love is someone riding my ### on a 2 lane with no passing. Couple of shoulder rockets and it usually stops. Call me unprofessional.. call me what you will. Words are ####, so I don't care. But no one will force me along the road. I get out of the way if I am in the way IF I can.

Most of the time when I see 4-wheelers doing this they have plenty of room in front of them to accelerate and get around me but no, they would rather stay back at the rear corner of my trailer. So If I need to get in the hammer lane some reason then I have to slow down and take a chance of an idiot behind me hitting my rear bumper because he/she is on the cell phone, sight seeing, or something else.
I deal with the situation as best as I can and as safely as I can, I was just inquiring as to why idiots do things like this.

I think they are intimidated by the size of the vehicle and unsure about passing. They stay there awhile and after they have slowed the traffic down, they then move forward kind of reluctantly.

Good point. I suppose that could be very possible and the most legitimate reason Ive heard so far.

I know what'cher talkin' 'bout, Harley. Here in SoCal, I see/saw it all the time. Get this -- in the summer, folks drivin' convertibles like to drive in the shade of Big truck trailers -- even to the point of obstructing the lane. With a 55 mph speed limit for Big trucks, and 65-70mph for cars and peek-ups, (doin' 85mph) that creates a safety issue, and requires the professional Big truck truck driver to be EXTRA alert. Just goes with the job.

As to why folks driver their smaller vehicles in reckless manners, I can only hope it's out of ignorance -- and not spite.
If 4-wheeler drivers could see some of the bone-headed stunts some of them pull out there, it would HAVE to open their collective eyes to the dangers they create -- that are mostly AVOIDED by a professional Big truck truck driver. (Who will probably be flipped-off for doing their best. #1 !) :biggrin_25510: :biggrin_25526:

    BuT!
In all fairness, ....... Big truck truckers knew the job was dangerous when they took it.
    At least they SHOULD!
    Ya reckon.

    Side Bar ~~~~~~~

I've noticed that IF the rear of a semi-trailer kinda wiggles in the lane and
comes close to the lane dividing line -- especially pullin' doubles -- it tends to get the vehicle back there's attention. If they STILL remain there -- Go to HIGH ALERT and keep a sharp eye on them.
This what we mean when it's said that professional drivers are not only required to drive THEIR vehicle, but all the other vehicles in the immediate area, too.
That takes experience and a good attitude to master.
And, some never will -- unfortunately. :biggrin_25521:

Personally I feel that there are way to many people who just do not seem to realize that the left hand lane should only be used for passing and not just ridding along, one of my pet pieves!!! Just like the center lane on route 60 here wher I live, people get in it, way before they need to turn, and I have seen way to many almost head ons by people doing that. Someone I know, actually got a ticketed from a state trooper, for ridding the left hand lane for two many miles. But yes there are times, that you do get stuck, I bet that everyone at some time , has had that happen. As for me I am a 4x4 driver, who will go out of my way not to inconvienence anyone on the road, because I cannot stand when it is done to me:biggrin_25523:
